I just finished the game on hell difficulty with my first HC character ever. Mallory is a lvl 83 lightning fury amazon with support of freezing arrow. I played her untwinked, however i re-ran NM countess ~20 times to get a shael rune for rhyme shield. It was pretty tough to defeat hell ancients, but it was the only big problem i encountered.
As i concentrated mainly on resists and survivability, i played with minimum MF, particularly on hell difficulty. Therefore i only had a few nice drops:
waterwalks, shaftstop, aldur's boots, pala combat skiller

Edit: I forgot to mention that i have completed all quests except hell Nihlathak.
