Is this possible in HC and can I make it to hell and stay there?
I figure trying to locate Bonehew or something else.
I just don't know about resists and other unknowns.
Any thoughts or suggestions...
Thanks

Sure it will work, anything can be done ;)
You'll obviously lack the shield and thus some defense but more importantly block. Whereas you compensate with a high damage. I don't remember the WW ias breakpoints for different polearms or Bonehew for example, but it shouldn't be too hard to find them. Go for the highest bb and remeber that you don't have a shield and you'll be fine. Resists will be near the same anyway.
Oh, and don't forget the corresponding mastery. (whether you go polearm or spear)

thats what you get for not playing for a year or so... things start to fade ;)
i'm assuming you mean pvm
If cost isn't an issue I have a great poleaxe ww barb who I think is possibly one of my favourite chars.
With his living merc he does 12k ww with 5.5k life and solid defense. Pretty adequete for dealing with most things in the game.
My son has a IK barb in SC. He uses the set 2 handed maul with no block.
I found that the Hell cows were killing this char and was able to use howl to defeat them. I had problems with herds of cows chopping him into little bits.
Howl scares the cows and they would run away and then come back in 1s and 2s. The barb could chop them as they fled and was able to deal with them in 1s and 2s. Worked great.
I think that there is a polearm that gives block.

 You are sorely mistaken. This isn't Jujutsu. Unless you're an Assasin, you can only block things with a shield.
I'd have to assume Aaron's using eBotD Great Poleaxe.
yes, botd great poleaxe is it.

Now I'm thinking about making a WW Barb with a ribcracker. Might be fun hearing that "THUD" as he spins spins and spins.

Why enigma? Just to so you can mf mephy and schtuff?
high defense
tele is fun
2 extra skills for when i have to bo myself (i have max bo but its not as good as a boer)
massive strength bonus, somewhere in the 70's i believe.
On this particular build there is a relatively high str requirement and a pretty high dex requirement since i'm not using a shield. With all my added stat point gear his stats look something like:
210 str
120 dex
520 vitality*** kinda nice to have with no block
Go go eth tomb reaver! I was thinking of putting one on a fury druid. But it would work just as good with a WW baba.
(hmmm I might actually make one of those to!)

My level 45 pallys will have this much life without factoring their gear.
You put tons into strength

Read much?
He said 520 vitality, not 520 life. A lvl 9 dueler can get ~520 life...

This looks to me like it is after items. Taking Anni, Torch, Arreat's, BotD, and Enigma into account, his str is probably much lower. HCKull, 520 vitality is much different than 520 life.

His base strength without items is something like 75. So the points invested are:
str - 45
dex - 0
Vit - everything else
with the 5xx vit he has a base life of like 2700 and near 6k with bo.

20 (arreats)
10-20 (torch)
10-20 (anni)
15-20 (rends)
~70 (enigma)
Doesn't look like he spent a "ton" in strength to me... less than 100 hard points total, I'd say.
edit... I'm slow :(

Oops!
Your right.

Things to watch out for with 2h Whirlers:
Ribcracker/Steel driver/Bonesnap are all range 1-2 wepons...This means you basically have to drive through things.
The best I can think of is an upgraded Hone Sudan (eg : Doesnt require a TON of resources) simply because it has good range, good damage and good speed. Remember that you don't have to dole out a ton of damage to do well.
Guilmes face
Hone sudan
Goblin toe
-Decent bit of CB in there. You can whirl on the outskirts of the mobs and hack away if it's too risky to pummel through them.
I'd say having nice def, nice LL, nice range (as NS already stated), some DR, and good res are all essential in a 2 hand ww barb at the higher lvls. Without that shield you have to step up the rest of your game to make up for it.

Always be on the lookout for that cruel warpike of quickness ^^.
The biggest problem you will have is with resistances. That extra 60 from a sheild will be heavy noticed. If you're somewhere that you will be fighting casters and know it...You'll need to use your thinking cap and not just barrel in. Howl/taunt/etc.

And the 78 million you need to repair it every game. :)

Yea those are good points. Of course I still need to find a weapon weather it's Ribcracker or Hone.
I like the Ribcracker because of the CB but the range is limited.
We'll see. I just started making this guy this week and he's only lvl 5 :prop:

We'll I'm lvl 23 right now. I'm using a sword and shield combo now until I get a good weapon and WW.
Don't suppose anyone has a spare ribcracker that their not using? I just can't seem to locate one.*
*if asking for items is against the rules I apologize. There really isn't much trading going on and I figure the one's who still play have mules full of stuff sitting idle.
Thanks

There are plenty of them floating around.
I have a couple extras if you want them.
But please send me a private message and let's keep this offline. This isn't a trading forum.:azn:

We'll I got a Ribcracker and made it to NM. Doing pretty good spinning around and around.
I'll update when I'm mid-way through NM.
Just need to find some armor, gloves and a helm but thats it ;)
I started a ww barb too yesterday and i hope him to be a lot of fun. I do have some cheapo gear that ive found with other chars or got for a couple a pgs so ill post it. Any opinions on the gear and possible (cheap) upgrades would be nice to hear.
Tal rasha helm socketed with ort
Angelic amu
Bonehew(278% >_< but then again someone just dropped it in a trade game :P) 2 shaels
Shaftstop (might up this) socketed with thul
Laying of hands
Angelic ring
String of ears
some el cheapo leech ring. cathans maybe >_<
goblin toe
Inventory filled with enough charms to get 75/75/75/x resists.
If my calculations are correct then ill have 3000 life and 41% dmg reduction, dunno what def will be. Would this setup survive hell?
Oh and does barbarians whirlwind attack speed get slowed down when youre frozen?

The speed of your WW movement decreases, but your attack rate remains the same, meaning you actually hit more per WW pass.

A neat thing in pre-expansion was to not wear any cannot be frozen gear and WW diablo...You'd end up with 20 some hits per whirl when he froze you mid whirl.

Is this life with/without BO? 3k seems bit low, especially around higher levels.

with bo.
its so low because the only +stat items i have are angelic ring + amu for 10 dex. so other than that i gotta get the 195 str/75dex required to wear my bonehew and thus i wont have too much life.
anyway at the moment im level 40, venturing in nightmare act 1. since i dont have any decent polearms to use i took a rib cracker from a mule and smacked a shael in it. works ok, hope to get lvl 64 soon for bonehew >_<

my IK barb has roughly 3-3.5k life and then all the perks that come with ik set. Surviving a1 was fine, although the first time i built him he died to a mean pack in arcane.
You're gonna have the same life without all those lovely perks of IK set....your life is suffering.
If all you need is 195 str and 75 dex you should be ok. What I would suggest is to find as many str charms or str items to make up that gap while investing your points into vitality. This will assist your BO boost instead of having +vitality items and investing into strength.
