So far as I know there is no way to shorten the time between each ww, only minimalizing the impact it makes by doing shorter ww's

Short whirls maximises the time between whirls but eh...

I don't know if there is any way to get rid of it, I just hold down Whirlwind and drag my cursor... that works well enough...

There is no delay if you click right. If you are getting a delay its either lag or you are doing something wrong. Try searching "Smash BvC" on google videos, he demonstrates the triwhirl very well. Watch his cursor, not his barb. Also, an assassin needs tighter WWs, because you have range 2 claws instead of range 3 BAs.
