what is the best gear i can get for my hammerdins merc??

Since you'll be doing pretty much all the killing you really don't need any killing power on the merc.
An insight polearm to take care of manaproblems is fine, and maybe a shaftstop and some helm with leech. Sure, you can always use expensive armors like forti or coh, but its no must. Make sure to get leech on helm though.

Insight for sure as the mana is no problem once he is up, assume you are useing Prayer or HF act 2 type?
if rich and want the best make it all ETH for the bonuses, add a fort runeword armor and a 12%LL Uped Crown of Thieves and that a Hammer Merc. you can use the Shaft and a Gaze for DR and less armor and leach as well.

Leech = life or mana stolen per hit.
This means that every time you hit a monster a percentage of the damage dealt is converted to own life, so you survive better.

With a merc they dont use or lose mana so it always means life leach and is a must have to keep him alive :-)
