DISO: Good Hotkey Set-up for a Mage

I'm having a helluva time gettin an ergonomic set up for my mage. My finger next to my pinky is gonna have major arthritis if I keep up my current hotkey layout...but maybe that's just the way it's gotta be :undecided: .

Q=belt slot no.1 for ezier mana access
W= keepin this at weapon switch
E= Vigor
A=Hammers, S=Tele, D=Conc
Z=Charge , X=FOH, C=Conviction
R/T=BC/BO, F=HShield

Am I all jacked up here?
List out what your using if you have any recommendations. THX!

Personally I would never suggest using your pinky unless it's super-trained. The pinky is weaker than other fingers, thus the commands you use with your pinky, if in hurry, may be missed (as if you press it too lightly). Also the chance of your pinky pressin a button alone is quite a small one. I myself have never learned to write with the 10 finger system due to a ****ty pinky and weak control over it.

That's why I use the index finger, thumb, middle finger and the ring finger. The hotkeys I've used for a LOONG time:

S: main attack or aura
F: Teleport
D: Leap or secondary skill (MB, amp, charge, shapeshift, bear)
Q: rarely used secondary skill (howl, taunt)
E: more often used left-hand secondary skill (such as Charge on my Zealot (he uses smite on D)
G: Pre-cast spells or Unsummon (Bone armor, Holy Shield, Venom, ES, Cyc armor)
f8,f7,f6 : bc, bo shout. In that order.

And I constantly use all of these on my BvC (E is Conc on my barb, use it in PvM and BM duels when I need leech and vs. bonewall camping boners. Q is howl, I use it vs. windies a lot, also in PvM)

That's what i do too. My pinky is down on shift, 95% of the time. The future arthritis finger is my ring finger although, I didn't call it my ring finger I said "the finger next to my pinky". Problem is that i charge, hammer, charge, hammer, hit Q for more mana, charge, hammer, tele on someone, hammer, charge, etc, etc.

Back when i had my old mage i used this setup:
Q: tele
A: charge
S: vigor
W: hammer
D: conc
E: foh
F: conv
Z: HS
X: cleansing(for curses and psn)
C: smite(just in case)
V: Holy shock(for ss'ers last point if they aren't close)
R: holy freeze(for slowing em down)
F1: bc
F2: bo
F4: towntele(although only for pvm)

I'd suggest coupling your main attacks/auras next to each other.

Imagine I'm left handed (which I am) and that I use numeric pad for hotkeys ( which I also use ^)


8 hammer/ 9 conc
5 charge/ 6 vigor
2 foh/ 3 conviction

side keys:
7 - tele
4 - holybolt (for tvt)
1 - medi
pgdown - cleansing

F9 weapon switch
F10 BC
F11 BO
F12 Hshield.

Works great for me.

The key setup I use for V/T (Also applicable to mage)

Q = Charge
W = Foh
E = Fanaticism (mage = Concentration)
R = Smite (mage = hammer)

A = Holyshield
S = Salvation
D = Teleport
F = Conviction

Z = battle command
X = battle order
C = Holy Freeze

Works pretty well.

I currently use this as a pubbie setup, if duel a char I need to tele against I switch Charge and teleport around.

I find myself using charge more than tele unless i want to tele hammer someone or against bone necs who bonewall me. im thinking of switching the shift command to caps lock to see if its faster than shifting.

Do you have giant's hands?
I have big hands :wink2: , and I'd kill myself tryin to charge/vigor, hmr/conc, etc, etc. using function keys. Not to mention I'd prolly need 2 add'l fingers.

To "drive" a mage you'll need somewhere between 8-15 keys, so function keys aren't that good.
