AS description doesn't make it clear. Can it be used for Paladin Shields? Will it keep the Res All mods intact? I'm trying to get myself a 2 sock Elite Pala Shield with decent res.

It can be used on Paladin Shields (this is actually how people eth glitch them for 'Exile').

The inherent mods will remain.

It will have a 1/4 chance of getting 2 sockets.

Yep. That's what he meant.

I thought it was random, with equal probability, from 1 socket to the maximum number of sockets available for the item type, which is 4 for shields. How do you get 1/6?

It's actually a 3/6 or 1/2 chance - the probability is always calculated for the max sockets of any item - anything higher than max is counted as max. So for a shield a roll of 1, 2, or 3 would add that many sockets while a roll of 4, 5, or 6 would add 4.

....but since he wants 2 sockets on an item that can have more than 2, the chance is STILL 1/6

I must just be making stuff up based on experience... I can never seem to get max sockets on an armor when I really need it.

As the recipes has the numbers 1 and 6, it seems it has nothing directly to do with max sockets of anything, other than for capping. Haven't done any testing to confirm that tho...

It works like this:

1) role 1-6 equal chances

2) any roll over max sockets gives max

For example:

Sheild has max of 4 sockets

1/6 of 1 socket
1/6 of 2 sockets
1/6 of 3 sockets
3/6 of 4 sockets

so 1/6 is chance of 2 sockets

Score one for me not reading.. I just assumed he was looking for 4 sockets. You're 100% right

I read too fast myself. If you've been on these forums a while, you'll have noticed me doing very similar bloopers.
