Chain of Strength Trades

For those of you who read the Item Find Thread, you have already seen this, but Chain of Strength posted a Lo rune (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?p=4751871#post4751871) found in 1.11 (according to the screenshot) that had a pre-1.10 version.

I realize that he has done a great deal of trading, so it's not practical for me to go through and PM people. So, check your trades, and delete any items that you received from him. If you have any questions, PM me.

well at least CoS won't be polluting the price check thread with crap items anymore. that drove me nuts. out of curiosity, can someone explain to me why the rune was considered illegitimate?

Screenshot says the rune was found in 1.11, the ATMA readout says EXPANSION, ie 1.07 - 1.09. Something doesn't quite add up.

It's bad, but except for the P Gems, not as bad as I thought it was going to be, as only a couple of the SCs in the items listed below ever actually made their way onto any characters, and nothing on my heavily played characters thankfully.

For the record, deleted these items received from Chain of Strength over the last couple months.

All my junk jewels will have too go over 200 and my good Jewels
All my Perfect Gems which i had over a thousand because they all went in the same stash

Have not traded since I got the charm so that hopefully stops the taint

It would have been very, very bad for me (and perhaps others here) if I used anything from him on my blizzsorc, which I have logged boggling hours of pindling/mephing with in the last couple months, which also spared me from use of the CoS items on other chars since I was so single-mindedly doing those runs. Yay for insanity? Anyhow, couldn't you have spared any items on your hammerdin that you knew for sure you had before you got that SC? I seem to recall that auction being not too long ago. Anyhow, my sincere condolences :sad2:

Not really I had a long think about before i did it He is (was) my Primary Mfer I stupidly equipped the charm as soon as I got in that space of time which i think was about two days I did about 400-500 pits runs ever thing i got from those runs was tainted including the stashes they go in and the char who i got them with, the only stuff i have saved is my mercs equipment but i have kept that in a separate stash and at the moment I am undecided what too do with it but i most likely delete it.

I believe Quite strongly in the taint issue and i have paid the price

I have Practically tainted about a 3rd of my Item wealth and my entire low rune and Gem wealth due too ONE bad trade and too me taint a pretty big Issue.

I Really don't want too pollute the item pool any further.



But what really upsets me is the countless hours I have invested in him at the end of the day just was not worth it

I Love SPF For lots of reasons and I thought trading here would be safe and COS Came across has a trustwothy Person lets Just say my trust has been really shaken.

EDIT: I think what I will do have a Break for awhile sort out the untainted stashes and host a giveaway of the items and then just carry on with my self found Grail if I do trade now it will be very rare if at all. I think rather host Giveaways and let my forum friends just have what they want

Deleted String of Ears, Sigon's Shield, 6 PGems. A loss of virtually nothing, besides a SPF member :sad2:

But the SoE was one of the very first items I got for my Normal Mephing barb (which found items for a NM mephing sorc, which led to the MF sorc I have today). I guess that pretty much means everything I own is tainted. This happening, combined with me getting a new laptop, is making me wanna do a clean fresh restart.

I'll definitely still be around the SPF, but I'm still undecided about the SPTF.

CoS posted a screenshot of a Lo rune he found. In his screenshot the version of D2 he was playing was 1.11 but the readout from the rune said "Expansion" not "1.10+ Expansion" which means he found a pre 1.10 rune in a 1.11 game. :scratch:

Now everyone's doing damage control and trying to remove the taint from his trades and giveaways because obviously it was a hacked rune.

I have PM'd Cat for advice whether I should delete. Erish hasn't been played much IIRC as I have been focusing on Pushkin.

Very low end stuff; keeping stuff separate has saved me again. I will understand if people no longer want to trade/MP with me.

I Love SPF For lots of reasons and I thought trading here would be safe and COS Came across has a trustwothy Person lets Just say my trust has been really shaken.

Luckily I've kept the 9 Rals he's given me for a Butcher's Pupil quarantined, so I got away lightly there. Which brings me to the obvious question: WHY?
Why would someone trade for low-level items when that person's not only capable of but also willing to hack stuff together. And hosting a giveaway?

While this put another dent in my optimism, I will keep trading, but with more caution of course. It would be sad to see if people stop trading altogether after these sour incidents. :soapbox:

@Suiling: PM Cat about your char, let's hope for the best and hope your char doesn't need to be deleted.

Although I have posted my trade status some time ago, I haven't done any trade for some reasons, one of them being this one: the possible taint I can get and the possible deletion of my chars/items. It should have been somewhat suspicious that he claimed to have incredibly good items (like that shimmering small charm of luck, or his 424 MF Barb) and yet he filled the Price Check Thread with all those worthless items, a player tends to recognize potential good items with time if he's doing the runs himself...........

Maybe we should think of new ideas to try to prevent these things happening, as someone else posted, being so easy to cheat and so hard to detect dupers/hackers really doesn't help.

Maybe we should try something like a circle of trust: members with long enough probable good trade history can setup a little circle where trading is not restricted in any way among them, to accept members in the circle of trust all members will have to vote to accept it (it can be either because of completing good trades and proving to be a good member). It sounds a lot like the Trade Probation Status but it's only an idea to prevent things like this happening

When I upgraded the Magefist I had, it became affected as the Shael Rune he gave me was used to upgrade it. Secondly, I immediately put on the War Traveler he sold me...

So I'm losing my Lvl 89 Meteorb, Full Tal's Set (Traded for), War Travs, Up'd Magefist, Ravenfrost, that Nice Rare that Norm Ormus gave me, that kick arse Claw I found, along with many runes up to Lem, I guess you could say I need to restart my Frenzy Barb too... He is wearing the Full Sigon's that my Meteorb found... UGH!!!

The only thing NOT affected is my PGem stash... The reason for this is that the only Pgems in that Stash are from my RESTART Auction/Sale, therefore unaffected as all the gems I found with my Meteorb were put in a different Stash...

So, it's another Full Restart if you will... I will keep my PGems though... Unfortunately, I will no longer participate in Trading/Giveaways/etc...

I will still participate in Tourneys, Hunt for the Grail, and Elite Runners (when I get a character able to do it again)...

Sorry to all who were affected by CoS... It is a great loss to us all...

After some thought on this I've decided I'm going to do a clean restart and play self found. I've not done any trades with CoS or anyone else for that matter, but what concerns me is the items I've recieved as gifts and from drops in MP games. It's hard to track an item's origin and you don't always know what someone is using on their character when that item drops and you take it and mix it in your stashes. I'm 99.9% sure the things I've recieved are legit but in recent events it's the .1% that worries me.

The bright side to all this is that it will be fun to see if I can do it all on my own. I'll feel much more rewarded if I can gain a vast wealth of items without the help of anyone else. Luckily I have a level 25 fishymancer who's been sitting idle since I got my net back, who's never seen ATMA, been twinked, or MP'd.

Edit: I already deleted my stashes but my Sorc is still there. The rest of all this pending Cat's response to that email. Dunno why it would matter... I had nothing to do with CoS...

Just wanted to put it on the record that I deleted the 2 GCs recently traded from wilypueo that he was unfortunate enough to have traded from CoS. Even though they may not be tainted as claimed by CoS in his email I would never feel comfortable using them.

Wilypueo even sent me replacement GCs with which I'm still not comfortable. Not that I'm worried about them being tainted but because I figure if we (all SP Traders) trade together then we share the consequences together. I was unfortunate enough to have ownership of the items when CoS broke the rules so at that time they had become my responsibility as far as I'm concerned. I know the risks involved when trading (especially SP) and am willing to deal with any negative consequences. Besides, I consider myself extremely fortunate that I only lose a couple of skillers rather than entire stashes/characters like RKC and Aerwynd. I've only been back to playing DII for a month or two yet have played anywhere from 4-8 hours most days. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose all that work or more like RKC and Aerwynd probably did.

I still have a pending trade at the moment but I'm not sure I will continue trading. I'm definitely reconsidering my options. Which, quite frankly, sucks! I don't want to reconsider. The Realms are not for me because I'm a natural packrat and stashing things is a lot more trouble on the Realms. The "Realm Down" messages also got to me, though I understand why they are necesarry. SP however is perfect! You can save a million Identify Scrolls if that's what you want, you can MP, you can trade and there are a bunch of fun/crazy/wacky contests, etc. you can participate in. The best of everything as far as I'm concerned. I love finding my own stuff and I'm putting in a lot of hours at the moment but I also know that I will never be able to become a self found Grailer (let alone Eth!) and I won't be able to continue putting in as many hours into DII as I am at the moment. So I'd like to be able to trade with others to get some of the items that will make my characters more powerful yet that aren't dropping for me. And it seems such a shame to me that those great items that I do find but aren't useful to me are wasting away in a stash while someone else out there would make great use of them. So I like being able to trade and really want to be able to continue trading. But I do not want to get tainted. RRM and RWM are as far as I'm willing to go. So I am going to have to think about things. I don't know if the game would be the same for me if I can't interact with others through trade or MP though.

I have decided to help you all who had to delete your items because of CoS.
I am offering to giveaway my own items as a replacement.

Few rules:
1) Don't afraid to ask for items, I am here to help.
2) I can only giveaway set and unique items. In the highly unlikely case that I don't have the requested item, well, I don't have it....
3) Only those items that were lost due to deletion, it might be also items found with tainted gear, not the traded items itself.
4) Only those items that are crucial for your characters, I don't want to giveaway items that will collect dust deep in some stashes or be traded.
5) My items are tainted by using the seed command to recover maps few times in the past. I did it all correctly. I also hotmule Gheeds... I am vanilla self-found if you don't know...
6) I feel really bad after some incidents like this one, but we have to get over it and put back a smile on our face. :smiley:

@Zaliqai: Heh, it's weird I traded with him the most probably but in some ways am the least affected. Again, keep the skillers--I have been accumulating skillers to use for future builds, who knows when I would get around to using them, and I actually have a pretty good surplus of LB GCs--more of them than any other skiller. If you still feel uncomfortable, you can E-mail me a handful of P Gems towards my CoS deletion fund :smiley:

EDIT: Just read your PM. Well, I still have the replacement GCs on my trade mule I sent you (I delete items as I use the mules for the next trade). If you prefer, we can reverse the trade (minus the CoS items) we made if that suits you better, with no hard feelings on my part.

@Hrus: Thanks for the offer. For myself, I am fine. The P Gems and skillers were the pain in losing. Otherwise, I lost mainly unused socketables and crap eth grailers.

If my blizzsorc had been burned, I might have quit playing totally or just restarted and play self found, but she wasn't. I am rich enough at this point to absorb the losses. Anyhow, I still gained more than lost while trading here the last few months, not just in items either :thumbsup:

This is crap. When my new comp. shows up in a couple of days I'm intending to finally upgrade to 1.11b and start trading again, and BS like this makes me hesitant...

One thing that I intend to start doing before I trade again - full backup of all characters, equipment and stashes before each and every trade, to enable a rollback as necessary. Still, it could turn out to be painful if it's 6 months before someone's caught, and it doesn't help any person I trade with during that timeframe :embarassed: ...

Another idea: Perhaps we could start a discussion thread to determine if there's a reasonable method to quarantine traded items? I'm thinking of something similar to the recent rules revision discussion thread. Although, beyond a full backup before each trade, I don't have any other ideas on how to address a quarantine...

Is there any chance we could convince you to keep this char? After all you had charm only for few days, no need to delete lvl 91 char and all his items that were found before just because of it. I'm in quite different situation, I used his item while gaining alot of levels so I have to delete it. Just die few times, lose some exp, delete items you found using that charm, but save that paladin.

Good thing is that wasn't my MFer, it was kinda experimental build and I rushed with her through game so she didn't find alot of items. I deleted this few good items she found while questing (Shaftshop, War Traveler, Demon Limb, one Um rune).

This whole deal stinks. I missed this thread when it first came out. I spent my lunch looking to see what trades I'd made with him. I thought there were 2 or 3, but it turns out to have only been 1 where I got a Nef Rune and 4 Pgems for a low set item. This is nowhere even near as painful as what some of you have experienced.

Hrsus, I don't know if you will accept items from others for your healingway (I can't call what you are doing a giveaway) I would like to contribute.

Had some problems with not doing a full restart (he offered a GC for trade that he had before his supposed restart). Wasn't anybody else slightly suspicious of a guy with so many skillers but not very good gear?

Now jantia got banned cause he followed CoS's step although he wrote a touching ZOMG thread.... I just hope people can rethink or think thrice before they act. Chinese saying: Think thrice before acting... Game is game, i know, but hacking item or duping is braded as a crime in my opinion..
