Allright, so I want to do another test run. If you are unsure about the concept, just read the tread "[EU ScL Season4] Gathering Troops v1.3 - TEST RUN ONE!!!"
But this time, I want two full parties. Reason: If some guys have to go, then we can just go on in one party when 8 guys are out. We'd catch up pretty quickly anyway.
There are some things we'll do right this time, which we did wrong the first run.
- We WILL have a goldfinder barb build for BO and find item, to get us more item drops and the BO we missed so much the last time. Later on, he will get us gold for gambling and will BO before baals (and hork the 5 bosses in the throne).
- ONLY ONE person (the one with LEAST mf) gets to complete the baal quest until everyone is ready to move on to next diff. This person creates subsequent baal runs, thus making everyone else unable to complete the quest, and thus get quest drops every time. Only one or two should ever be matriarch/patriarch.
- We don't stop at NM meph, NM baal is so much more rewarding.
- Everyone makes at least 3 NM countess runs (that's 48 total with 16 ppl) once we go to NM. This will most likely result in runes enough to make the most important spirit and that first crap insight.
- Everyone keeps their "designated" merc up to date (rehiring to keep their levels high) and equipped. Nothing tanks as good as 8 act 2 mercs with BO, oak, defiance, holy freeze, might and 5 prayer auras.
- If anyone wants to make a hammerdin, I'll rather go with enchantress in the melee party. Big AR, big fire damage for everyone, and a point or two in static, free teleport.... so effective in a good party.
- Imbue quests should ALL be saved for Circlets(clvl 83)/Coronets(clvl78)/Tiaras(clvl 71 IIRC)/Diadems(any clvl). With +2 skills those are good replacements for shakos.
Things we did right the first run:
- Splitting up a bit in act 2 and 3 to go for quest items that are out of the way, this makes act 2 and 3 much much faster. Levelling is of no concern when in a full party.
- Having a hammerdin maxing concentration and a zealer maxing fana as their first skills really really helps the party with killing power. In an elemental party, I'd venture the same goes for conviction and that 1 point lower resist.
- Everyone should plan their build, and aim for the cheapest runewords. Runes LEM and below make a lot of wonderful runewords. (Wealth (mage plate), Stealth(quilted;lightplate), Edge, Harmony(for merc vigor), Spirit(crystal swords from act 5norm before WSK gets 4soc from larzuk), Insight (any polearm that gets 4soc), Treachery, Myth(for +2 barb), White, Lore, Smoke, Obedience(eth pole for merc CB), Honor(Divine Scepters rock)

I've not set a start time this time, because I want your input on that matter. I am able to play 24/7 if it's close to as fun as last time!!!!

As before, Iīd like to play again with one small difference being (pure) blizzard soso instead of (pure) lightning soso.
As for playing time Iīm perfectly fine with 24/7 , though at the beginning of the school year Iīll be able to play only like 2-3 hours per day but not above 8PM CET

humm, so IF I just pick the well balanced paladin, zealin with fanatiscm, but points in conviction too for caster helpin, in early game. Chaos is the only place that will get hard to melee.
I am from finland so the GMT is +2
We'll use accs with [S4] tag on them (mine, for instance, is *helvete[S4]) to separate them and reckognize each other. PhuQ, I have no idea when school starts, but in norway it's already started. No biggie, really, I guess we'll start out in a weekend, anyway. As soon as possible, but not until we have at least 16 people.

Forgot to say that, torch hunting should start the moment the gear is ready for it. Paired with a good BO barb, a smiter can do uber trist with very little gear. Mine has around 2 ists worth of gear...

Anyway, the windy you played last time was rock! Warcry barbs are fun, but hard (mana intensive as hell, and 1 mana per energy makes energy no option). Sorcs, amas and trap assas are more suitable for an elemental party (maybe we should try elements instead of physical/magic this time?)

Actually, as long as there is a barb with maxed BO (and preferrably some focus on shout too) and a druid with maxed oak, there is no need for more tanks than the mercs (with defiance, shout, BO, oak, even a lvl 60 merc gets almost unkillable). Chop in 10-11 skeletons (even the weaker ones of a poison necro) and tanking is all set. The elemental party of my dreams looks a lot like this.
- Poison necro max posion w synergies, max skellies, start on mastery - rougue merc with bramble/edge
- Avenger with maxed conviction, resist lightning/fire/cold/vengeance and 1pt salvation - Defiance merc
- Enchantress - Insight/prayer merc
- LF zon - Holy freeze merc
- Frenzy barb (goldfind build) with maxed BO/Shout - Might/Pride merc
- Cold sorc - any merc, pref another insight/prayer
- Wind Druid (oak) - Yet another insight/prayer merc
- Any char may fill in the last spot, pref a smiter (uber runs, fanaticism aura)

Physical party may do better with a fury wolf than with windy (upped ribcracker is cheap and reaches last BP with a 15%ias jewel in it)
Also, ubers are MUCH easier solo (lowest possible HPs) than in a full party. I'd BO the smiter, and hold the game for him to rejoin if he dies. About all the gear he needs is an elite shield with good resists and 4 pdia in it, a really fast weapon, a lifetap charged wand, and a little CB. With barbs BO he should have around 4k life, and with the resists from the shield, perhaps a duress armor, and fade (cast from treachery armor), Ubers no problem.

I don't know if I dare to set a date just yet, because last time I set the date too soon, and we were too few in the end. But I don't want to set it too far either, because then people might lose interest...
Input is welcome. BTW, all builds work if only the 7 others play decently. However, a BIG thanks goes to those that choose to use battle orders, oak sage, curses, and auras to help the whole party prosper.

I'd love to start now too, but there are too few of us to fill even one party. I was hoping to initially fill up two parties (one elemental focused and one physical focused) and then just conjoin them if a lot of people drop out.
What time zone are you in, BTW? (and more important, does that matter?)

I haven't been in the previous versions of this, but I'd be happy to join. I have quite a bit of free time on my hands, as long as it's not in the morning (since school will start for me again, soon).
I'll put some thought in what class/skills I will use (assuming I'm allowed to join in :P). I initially wanted to make a fanaticism zealot, but I see that spot is already filled by 'dasbomba'.
I see no reason not to welcome everyone who wants to get the feel of a ladder reset to join. I'll get some sleep, and then post tomorrow with a list of people.
Participating in the test runs WILL make you likely party members when/if the real thing is announced.

I'm not really excpecting a reset within next month, even though I'm hoping for it. But ladder 3 is getting very old, and economy is very screwed.
And I sure hope blizzard take their time to fix currently known dupe exploits (and maybe other bugs, but dupes concern me more since they ruin the economy) before reset, so that Ohm price goes back to 6 ists and HRs in general gets even more expensive.
Test run 1 was fun and I'd like to take part in this aswell. Saturday would be best start date for me but Sunday is ok too... I'd like to play a conviction pally or a cold sorc. I'm from Finland also so its GMT+2.

Well, I wouldn't mind being the one who uses oak, but I must admit I have close to no experience with druids. I also tend to lack the expensive equipment needed for melee characters.
The build I would think of as druid would be something like this:
20 Lycanthropy
20 Werewolf
20 Oak Sage
20 Fury
20 Feral Rage
If something like that is viable, I'll be happy to take it.
20 lycanthropy <-- good, that gives life and duration to your wereform
20 werewolf <-- overkill, points here gives IAS but on a strict diminishing returns basis. 5 hard points should be enough, if not only 1 point. If you have a hard time hitting things, spare points go here to increase AR, but in this sort of party, there's always fanaticism to boost AR, and maybe even enchant (that would rock!)
20 oak sage <-- benefits whole party, and what a benefit!
20 fury <-- More damage, more AR. 17% more damage per level = 20 points
20 feral rage <-- Also a bit overkill. With +skills from jalal's or even a decent circlet/amu combo, 1 point will be enough.
So what to do with spare points? Take a look into rabies. That poison can co-exist with other poison (like venom) and is quite a killer when using a treachery armor (which also solves any IAS, curse duration and resist problems you might have).
Blocking a hit causes fury to miss all attacks made after the block (known bug) so you're probably better off with a big 2 handed weapon. In this party, you'll be the only character looking for a big 2 handed weapon, so you'll be good on weapons. Upping a steeldriver, or even a bonesnap just to exceptional will make a scary weapon. Upped ribcracker is the wettest dream.
Being the shapeshifting druid (probably the only druid) makes druid specific stuff yours by default. Seeing that first jalal's drop is quite a good feeling, I assure you.
Since you have limited expirience with druids, this test run should be the perfect opportunity to build one from scratch, in a big party. Thus being prepared if you choose to make another when the ladder really does reset. Great choice.

When going wolf, dont make rabies for pvm :(, I tryed, you'll end up just charging feral and killing with fury.

I really don't know about the barb, war cry is mana intensive as hell, don't do that much damage at all, BUT its stun is incredibly long. The ultimate purpose of the barbarian in the long run should be goldfinding and MFing hell council. I've heard of people making a million gold in a good run there, not counting items. You have a great party to rely on for leveling, so maybe war cry (stun) while merc does killing? That has been done before.
Another thing with going all out on the warcries tree is that you'll be using warcries items (amu, barb helm, skillers) instead of damage items (highlords, ED helm, 3/20/20s lol) when not goldfinding, making your BO and shout that much stronger.
About the real reset, the first and second threads are still there, maybe I should make another thread when we got this run going with more signups for the real thing.
If we don't get another 8, I'd start it off tomorrow, to give people a chance to check the thread before we kick off.

allthough this is true, but when equipping full MF/GF equipp i wont have more than about +4 skills, in this case 20 points in Find item still gives 51% chance! :)

Barb max goldfind equip is a little different in charms.

I'd probably be on the look for a crafted or rare belt instead of goldwrap, since these too can have 80%GF and still have two of the following: str/life/fhr

Enchant (crazy AR bonus and 2k fire damage, 10k+ for the sorc)
Amplify damage
Maybe lower resist (depending on necro build)
Maybe skeletons (depending on necro build)
Maybe conviction (depending on pala build)
We're looking at 300%+ bonus to life, 500%+ bonus to defense and 600%+ bonus to damage, not counting might merc, IAS and AR from fana/chant.
So, is there then anything more we want? I'm not counting life replenish from merc, thorns from merc, I did count defiance from merc, but didn't count holy freeze slow.... by nightmare act 2 (mercs available) this will be a walk in the park, provided everyone does their part.

I was sort of planning friday, when the weekend starts, but something's come up, and I have to move from my cabin (with internet access) to a hotel (which I'm unsure of has internet access) for the weekend. I'm probably back in the cabin sunday around 14:00 but that is also not certain.
I would guess that the hotel has wireless internet access, but I don't know what they charge for it, and that may become an issue.

Yes, at a cost of about 25€ per 24 hours. But I'm not the one paying, luckily. How about we start this tomorrow? I would have said today, but that gives people no time to prepare.

I had been thinking that we could self-rush characters we want (bo barb, goldfind barb, smiter for ubers, mf sorc) after we reach hell. But that's gonna put us a little behind in the ladder.

Three ways to go (mainly)
1: Avenger (max convict, vengeance, and a couple synergies). Get a BIG weapon.
2. Fists of the Heavens build.
3: Ele zealer (Get zeal, max its synergy, conviction and then get a FAST weapon with high elemental damage anywhere you can find it (azurewrath, baranars star, gimmershred, some runewords). Get as many elemental charms as you can (these are cheap) and watch conviction double their damage.
Avenger really only use 1 point vengance due to mana costs,

20 Conviction
1 vengeance

My laptop turned itself off, and now it seems I have a faulty hard drive :(
If that is so, then it's no more computers for me in a while, and then I'll probably go completely nuts.
I've called a friend over to come help me to see if it can be saved, but right now, quite a lot of system files are not working, and system restore is not helping.

Well, I have reformatted the hard drive, and my system works as intended, as does networking, and I have purchased another 24 hours of internet access here at the hotel. However, I only have images of the diablo2 cds, and although I know I can install vanilla from those, I am unsure about the expansion. I will try to get a hold of a physical expansion disc if installation from the images fail. I have two sets of cd keys available, so that's not a problem either.
Being all fresh installed, I installed service pack 2 from a disk (so that I would not get taint from the internet before windows firewall was ready) and installed AVGfree, spywareblaster and spybot and updated all. All that I can think of that is left to update is windows update and my opera browser.
I am pretty sure that a very malicious virus caused my trouble, since all of a sudden, DHCP client would not run (preventing internet access), AVG fully updated 36 hours ago would mystically fail to scan ANY drive and boot sector, and spybot would not be able to finish searching. Sound drivers were corrupted, and even important system processes (and less important ones, like genuine advantage notifier) would crash.
I doubt a few bad sectors on my hard drive could cause THAT much trouble, especially since chkdsk and drive fitness would find no errors whatsoever.

Well, I leveled to lvl 15 on countess, and then got the waypoints I had missed. Didn't kill andy, though. BUT countess dropped both tal and eth, and since I had that 15%/15% superior leather armor, I made stealth! 2 levels until I can use it. Ith, eth and 3 tirs also dropped. Was hoping for a Ral for "leaf" when we can afford a +3 enchant staff, but that will have to wait.
We're going again tomorrow? (wednesday?) I'm burning with eager here...
