Hi guys, my names Tyler, and to be honest I'm sort of new to the fan fiction forums. I post all the time on the community, and trade forums, but I've never found my way here until now. A friend and I decided to make hardcore chars and he would try making a story out of it, but it's a little complicated and I don't want to go to much in to details, but I'll just say that that plan is on hold for a while and I haven't been able to get in touch with him. Back to the point though, I'm 16, but I love to write. I'd love to write an original story here, but I just have a few questions before I jump on it.

It's good that the story not really reflect the storyline of D2 correct? You guys want to see real orignal stories, right? Can I still base my story off chars from D2? And will people actually read my story?

I'm still trying to figure everything out and it might take a while, but I hope to see all of you guys soon.

-Donutz

P.S-I hope I won't get in trouble with mod for asking all this, I just wan to make sure I get things straight and everything complies with the rules and what not.

Extremely good. Yes. I could live without ever seeing Akara, Kashya, et al in a story again, but you can use them, and of course you can use player characters. People will read it. How many, I have no idea. I can only promise more than if you didn't post the story.

Questions are always welcome. The FAQ (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=126559) covers most stuff, but anytime you're not clear on something, you should feel free to ask.

I'd say that avoiding the Diablo II storyline may help, depending on how that decision impacts your writing. It's always a good start to keep your work from sounding like watching someone play the game, or from rehashing stuff that's been seen over and over. This can be done with or without using Diablo II NPCs and plot lines, though, because there's always room to build on what the game covers or expand parts that are just briefly mentioned. Avoiding the Diablo II storyline and characters may indeed help you to not sound like a hack. On the other hand, you may need to use some of those elements so you can get the piece off the ground.

In the end, the biggest deciding factor regarding how people will view your story is based around the quality of your writing. If you happen to do a "seen-it-a-million-times" sort of plot, but you write a good character and story, then I would be perfectly willing to hold on for the ride.

As for readership, the only person I can speak for is myself, but I can say that I will read whatever you send over here and probably offer comments if you want them.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate it. About the story, I don't want to divulge too many details, but don't worry I won't be using any npc and such, but it will be based off the chars(Barb, sorc, etc) and maybe a few other instances in the game. It may take a while btw, because I'm......well let's just say, grounded. So, it'll be hard to get on the comp, but I promise I will try to put out the story in any way I can. Thanks again.

Personally, I prefer to write inside the game, but keeping away from the game storyline. I've found that if somebody's just writing out the game storyline there's nothing to look at that I don't already know.

If I see your story, I'll read it, but I tend to shy away from stories ritten liek tis. It doesn't look like you'll do that, but just in case...watch the grammar and spelling - nobody minds a few mistakes, but if the entire thing looks like you've been randomly beating your keyboard, your readership will go down.
