So I had a sorc with 673 mf and I was running The Pit because I heard it was a good place to do mf runs. Well I wasn't getting much to speak of: some gold, rejuvs and some exp. I asked in the chat why I wasn't getting anything and I was told that you can have too much exp. Is this true? I have good dear so that I could reduce my mf and have a stronger character so that'd be cool if I could do that.

Basically my goal is to make an mf character that can get hr somewhere. so if you guys could tell me whether less is more with regards to mfing that'd be great. Also if it is true, how much mf do you have and where do you mf?

Too much MF can be a bad thing when it starts to decrease your killing speed. The general rule is to have as much MF you can put on without reducing your killing speed. For example, if you can clear the WSK in 15 minutes with 400% MF, but that time increases to 25 minutes with 600% MF, it will be better to stick with 400% MF and do your runs faster.

Imo, 200% MF is more than adequate. 300% MF is ideal. 400% MF is quite good. Any more than that and you'll really have to make sure that you're not sacrificing killing speed for more MF. Generally, the more MF a char has, the slower they are at killing monsters.

MF has no effect on runes dropping. If you are rune hunting, you need to play in 8 player games where monsters have a far greater chance of dropping items, including runes.

Killing speed/power > MF. MF plays a marginal value in finding items. In the end it all comes down to how many runs you make, not much more. Try to have as much MF as you can, but so that you can still kill good and with speed. If you are slow or start dieing, simply swap MFgear for better gear.

But regarding your question, you cannot have to much MF, that is crap information. The only thing that statement says, is that no matter how much MF you have, its still mostly down to luck.

Finding HR might be more efficient running the countess over and over again though.

For MF runs I do Travincal, Meph, 1st WP in Act 5 (up and down), and WSK.

I find that 400ish MF gives me the best blend of kill power and MF. I don't count merc gear or switch gear in that number.

I don't MF in the pits. I use my strafer there (with almost no MF) to score nice socketables.

Sorry if this is off topic but you could always run the countess tons and tons and farm your own hrs. That is, if you really want hrs badly.

I find that using the Tal's belt, armor, and amulet is an easy way to increase killing speed, MF, and resistances. Plus, that purple armor looks sweet.
