Hi, I play a sorc on hardcore, and am not very rich. I'm starting hell, and running into trouble keeping my resists high. My friend uses a bunch of grand charms with good resists, and I have been keeping an eye out for those, but I am not sure where to sacrifice power for resists.

I have the Spirit weapon runeword and the Ancients Pledge shield runeword, but am thinking of putting Spirit on the shield and swithcing my weapon to a wizardspike for when I need resists. Or I could spirit both of them, and use jewely and armor for heavy resists. I'm also considering putting 4pdiamonds in a shield, but this seems to sacrifice a lot just for resits.

Since it is hardcore, I would like to hit 75/75/75/75 in hell, but really I just want to get my resists away from hovering around 0 in hell without sacrificing much power/FCR. I can't imagine going under 65 FCR seriously.

Thanks for any advice you might have.

Wizardspike with a 'Spirit' shield is indeed a viable option, in fact that's what I used on my Lightning Sorc when I restarted from scratch on USWest Hardcore not long ago. Just keep in mind that Wizardspike requires 75 dex (goes down to 60 when socketed with a Hel rune), that the 'Spirit' shield with the lowest possible str requirement is a Monarch (156 str required), and that it's not feasible to have a high chance to block with said shield. Those two items along with a Skin of the Vipermagi armor (and of course a couple Anya quests) will very nearly get you maxed resists in Hell, tons of mana, +3 to all skills, 55% FHR, and up to 115% FCR. Extremely cheap and effective if you ask me.

Of the options you mentioned, I'd say the Wizardspike + 'Spirit' shield setup is definitely the one to shoot for. Dual 'Spirits' will leave you short on resists, and a 4-diamond shield will offer you absolutely nothing besides resists.
