hey all, i got a summoner and for me merc (might aura) i was thinking of giving him a botd and was wondering, seeing as he can only use spears and polearms an eth war pike would be the best to make it out of? yes? no?

no, try to get a eth pride polearm, that way he'll grant the conc aura to ur skellys along with might which adds a lot of ed to the skellys attack dmg.

use a beast for necro switch to add fanat to them which makes them attack faster as well as even more dmg.

these are some viable weapons mercs can use:
eth cv
eth gpa
eth ca
eth thresher
eth giant thresher

the max sockets on some of these vary

I'm not sure if thats the BEST thing to make it out of, but I do believe that would be a good choice if anything, I must say though that if you do this, you basicly reduce its re-sell value by about 70%, so you might want to consider the consequences of socketing this before doing it, because if you do, and ever get him somthing different, or just a plain new merc, you'll have a very hard time selling it, but you plan on using it for this one sole purpose forever, then yes, I think its a good idea.

I highly suggest saving some money and getting an Infinity instead of a Breath of the Dying. The Conviction helps Summoners the most, but it also helps Boners and Poison Necros.

Pride is more useful, but it freezes monsters. Still would prefer Pride.

Ebotd in a ghost spear is a really nice merc weapon.I have one on an act 2 merc for a barb and the speed and leach of the weapon makes him near unkillable.
Like the others said though another choice with built in aura would be more useful for your summons.Pride or infinity the most useful.

Nothing to do with the subject at hand, but actually.....If you outfitted your mercenary with bramble, and summoned a few melee minions, that could prove pretty powerful when everything is said and done. (I think armor thorns carries over, right?)

Very true. Generally speaking for a summoner, get as much auras that benefit the minions as a whole.

I think an ethereal thresher is the best choice for infinity.

Thresher is nice seeing it has the lowest req and fastest speed but its only range 2 weapon.Id prefer personally a great poleaxe which has more damage and is range 5 the ias is 0 compared to the thresher at -10.
