Well, I have no idea if anyone will remember me. Evidently someone high up in D2.net does, because my Demandred account is still banned, when I tried to log into it after - what? Must be 3, 4 years now.

For those who don't know me, I used to play Hardcore a long time back, with the GAT people. Had a bit of a falling out with them, and Zappafan, which soon resulted in me quitting Diablo 2 altogether, and I haven't played since the end of 2002. Not my finest moment. :tongue:

But, it seems the bug has bitten again. At the moment I'm over in England (I'm an Australian, working over here) and given that I'm going to be here for quite some time, it seemed as good a time as any to jump back on the horse.

So, I just thought I'd come back, say hi - I probably won't be online for a week or two, until I move out of the hostel I'm in and get a place to share. No doubt the realms have changed tremendously since I left during 1.09, but hopefully I can remember how to play without too many deaths.

Oh, and will someone please update my Hardcore FAQ already? I was flabbergasted to find you guys still had it here. :grin:

Zappa only shows up when someone reports a post, so nobody can really update the FAQ.

You will find things to be VERY different from your 1.09 days, what with synergies, and everything else thats nerfed. The biggest will be hell difficulty. It really is difficult now, every monster that spawns there comes with an immunity to one thing (this includes Physical), so a single element character or a melee character that doesn't do some sort of elemental damage is pretty much out.

Iron Maiden isn't the play toy it used to be either. It appears in the World Stone Keep 3 (NM, and Hell), and in the Throne of Destruction (NM, and Hell), and of course in the Chaos Santuary (Norm, NM, Hell). You can no longer leach back fast enough to survive it. In short, if you do phisical melee attacks in an area where it's present, expect to die.

If you decide to play on USEast, Op xbananax is the channel to be in. clan gat-*realm* doesn't really exist anymore.

Anyway, sorry if I told you something you already knew. I'm sure you can figure it all out on your own.

Basically, what happened was that my enjoyment for co-op play pretty much died after I got my first level 99. I'd done hundreds of cow runs with my Amazon, a number of the Gatters were beginning to move on to other games (Star Wars Galaxies) etc, so I decided maybe I should give PK'ing a try. Anyways, Tecira talked me into moving to BM, I was banned from GAT, acted like a complete arse towards all the GAT folks and to Zappa on this forum, got banned from here, hung around in BM for about a month or so and then turfed Diablo 2 altogether.

On the whole it was a bit embarassing. I think I'd spent too much time playing Diablo 2, and was taking it pretty seriously at the time. In hindsight, ditching it altogether was probably the best thing to do. However, the spark has been rekindled, some 4 years down the track - I noticed 2 guys at the hostel playing a LAN game on their laptops, and decided to purchase a copy for myself. All I've done so far is play some LAN softcore with them, trying to remember how to play. I've got a level 21 Barbarian, and keep thinking how much easier it used to be to start new chars, when I had whole mules full of starting gear.

I am keen to get back into Hardcore, and play some good quality co-op again. If Zappa, or any of the mods see this, I apologise for any ill will on my part. I know I'm technically breaking forum rules by rejoining, but it was 3-4 years ago that I was banned and this time, I promise you won't hear a peep out of me. I am older, and wiser. (My ex-girlfriend might dispute this, but since she doesn't play Diablo we can ignore this.)

Ok, I can now definitively say that this return of mine isn't going to be a flash in the pan. I've just spent the past couple of hours making my way, in single player, from where I left off earlier, at Lut Gholein Palace to the Chaos Sanctuary. With a barbarian. Using only what I've been able to find.

Anyone who is patient and dedicated enough to actually clean out the Great Marsh, even when it doesn't lead to the Flayer Jungle, using only an imbued War Sword and a few crappy magic bits of Armour is definitely in this for the long run. It's all starting to come back to me now. I had the biggest "Oh crap" moment when I first stepped into the Arcane Sanctuary, and it all came flooding back.

Basically, I'm just biding my time for a couple of weeks until I move out of the hostel, as I said, so I figure I might download the latest patch, practise some characters on single player, experiment with these synergies (???) - I'm assuming it has something to do with certain skills complementing each other and get some practise in.

I'm really looking forward to this. Don't expect too much though. I notice someone called me infamous earlier on - I should emphasise any infamy attached to my good name is more from what I used to do and say on this on this forum, as opposed to possessing serious talent in the game itself.

That is correct.

A good example is a sorcs Fire Ball. Its pretty useless when it alone is maxxed, but when its synergies are maxxed as well (Fire bolt, and Meteor) it because a real killer.

A Lightning Trapper is also fairly harmless untill she is synergized.

The list goes on, and on, you will figure it out.

It would probably be good for you to take a proactive approach and send a message to ZF about you being back so he doesnt pop in and get upset. I am sure you have been banned long enuff but as you said its a forum rule.......he can then unbann your old acct.

YOu can also "self report" your existance and leave him a litle message in the reporting if you cant get a reply via e-mail.

Definitely the best path to take with instances like this. If I had discovered the new account on my own it would have been immediately banned without question.

I quit during 1, so I think it's 2 or 3. But either way it's been going for over a year and I was expecting a reset by the end of last month. So it's due to reset eventually.

I've been playing quite a bit of Runescape. Pretty cool game overall. I used to play a lot of first person shooters besides LOD, but I haven't really touched one since finishing Doom III. I bought Half-Life 2 and never even really played it. THAT'S a shock, that was a game I had really anticipated. I actually started playing Runescape waiting for HL2 to release after having completed Doom 3. Funny thing was I got hooked on RS by the time HL2 came out and I never have stepped away from RS.

Crap Zappa, you should at least play HL2 since you bought it and all! It really is quite an impressive feat of gaming and wont take you more then a week - 2 weeks to finish depending on how much you play. After that you can try HL2:Episode One, which is pretty fun also.

Besides, if you don't play HL2 you wont get to follow Alex and her digitaly mastered "behind" around. She doesn't seem to mind either?!

Try Rogue Trooper. We had a lot of fun with it during our lan party last weekend, and the single player campaign can be played on normal, hard and massacre... and massacre is probably very bad, but I haven't finished hard yet. oh I don't know.... see, over the last few years ever since I stopped playing I'd load D2 up and start a character on sp. Then, I would get bored of that character somewhere between completing the den quest and stony field (think thats the name...).

In all honesty I'm throwing the idea around in my head of loading it up once more for a bit. I kinda got the itch whilst chatting witha guildmate on wow - swapping histories, and I ended up recounting some of my more amusing pk tales (such as my origional telecro etc, as well as some of my more stupid deaths).

Heck i still know the mechanics of this stupid game I think. ugh.

Mine has a 1"+ crack in it, have to open the CD door and close it a couple times to get it to work sometimes.

I wouldnt consider myself back really, got a 55 Druid I hadnt touched in like 2 weeks until I play about an hour last night.....well maybe 2.

I keep an eye out for the reset, if the timing is right I may give it a go, but with GW3 (Nightfall) coming out in a month it isnt looking I will be very free. I usually work hard at GW to get unlocked then that is where I start thinking of other games when PvP in GW isnt available.

Horde all the way. My main is Kokomala, a 60 tauren shaman (typical enh/resto spec). Absolute blast to play. Also have a 60 nelf rogue alt that I rarely play - mostly with my 2 housemates hehe. They play alliance, I play Horde. Gawd I hate alliance.

No, was still part of the Fianna guild even tho we split. I dropped out of that when I started a assassin/monk. Currently unguilded. I did catch up with Adam maybe 2 months ago now.

My biggest gripe is trying to farm money and have a decent character progression (read: skill points). Both for me are such a pain that I give up on it after a while.

Seeing threads like this got me to fire up D2 again a few weeks ago. Been playing ever since and stopped playing DoD.

No matter how many times I quit. I always end up coming back.
