I am sure many people have wondered about this before, and indeed I found some threads even here which touched the issue, but I'm looking for some more specific info. The question is, can a hammerdin best the Ubers in Tristram? And more specifically, can my hammerdin do it?

First, credit where it is due: having read the Poorman's guide (http://www.theamazonbasin.com/d2/forums/index.php?showtopic=63770&hl=poor+man's+uber/) I did my own math and wondered, if he could pull it off with a dedicated smiter with sub-standard gear, why couldn't I with the best stuff I could afford? Here's what I came up with:

Weapon: Wizardspike, socketed with shael
Secondary weapon: bone wand with level 6 life tap
Helm: Guillaume's Face, unsocketed
Armor: Guardian Angel, unsocketed
Secondary armor: Treachery breastplate (to trigger Fade with)
Shield: Spirit runeword (resists 30/65%)
Belt: Credendum (solely for resists)
Gloves: Magnus' skin (for 20% faster attack and bonus life with helm)
Boots: Gore Riders
Amulet: 3 combat skills/76 life
Rings: 13 resist all and Raven Frost
Annihilus (14 stats, 16 resists)
Charms worth 16 resists, around 140 life and +1 to offensive auras

I'll spare you the math. If I didn't miscalculate somewhere, this setup should give me 76% fire res and 90% everything else, with Fade 90% all, even with Uber Meph around. With thawing and antidote potions 95% would be attainable. The average smite damage would be 363 against Mephisto and 760 against Diablo and Baal. The leech rates, with life tap active, would be 508 hit points/sec and 665 hit points/sec, respectively. With 50% crushing blow and open wounds from Gore Riders, this should work. Or am I right?

I have only two concerns with this setup. First, my resistance against Mephisto depends not only on salvation, but on the weapon. So when I curse him, my resists would probably be barely positive. There is no way I could switch to the wand to curse him twice, provided I survived even the first time. With 50% CB he should go down within the initial casting of 28 seconds, or not at all.

The other problem is leech. I know, the direct physical damage doesn't matter too much, except it is my source of hit points via leech, and that does matter. The values I listed above, 508 and 665 hit points per second, are comparable to the Poorman's guide, but I would be grateful for views from other people as well. Is it enough to survive on, together with 16 full rejus?

A couple notes: I give all respect to the Poorman's valiant usage of minimal gear, but I, being strictly a hammerdin, cannot afford not to use the best I have. At least I take pride in having found all the above gear myself. Also, I'm quite amused about turning my magic finder into an uber killer. The usual equip of this pala gives him around 600 mf.

EDIT: On second thought, I could replace the gloves with Laying of Hands, from the Disciple set. It would fix the fire resistance too, so I wouldn't need Fade even against Mephisto. It would cost me some life, but I would get the godly damage bonus against demons. Question: does it work with smite?
