View Full Version : How do smiters deal with PIs and IM?
Can someone pleas explain to me how do smiters deal with PIs and IM?
Do they use hammers as backup or Vengeance?

Answer to both is have Gimmershread Flying Axes on switch. Throw gimmers at OK's when IM around and hit with gimmers for PIs. Gimmers do massive elemental damage in addition to decent physical damage. Vengence in addition to the elemental damage of the gimmers may help as well.
Another good weapon for PIs is Azurewrath PB.
Hope this helps.

I use The Fetid Sprinkler
One-Hand Damage: (51-55) To (118-129) (84.5-92 Avg)
Required Level: 38
Required Strength: 76
Durability: 60
Base Weapon Speed: [10]
+160-190% Enhanced Damage (varies)
Adds 15-25 Damage
+50% Damage To Undead
+2 To Paladin Skill Levels
10% Chance To Cast Level 1 Confuse On Striking
5% Chance To Cast Level 1 Decrepify On Striking
+160 Poison Damage Over 4 Seconds
+150-200 To Attack Rating(varies)
Then after decrep hits i switch back to my grief and kill it.
Problem with glimmer is people like that too much and the cost is higher. Honestly all you need is decrept or something like a bstar it works. Heck grief will kill eventually as well.. i watched a 10 minute video holding down attack with a rubber band while my grief zeal was whacking on a pack of PI's was funny.

Well just get a torch ... the firestorm is good enough to deal with PI's even in hell ... that is if the mob isnt also fire immume

I doubt it.
I vouch for the Glimmershed as well.

honestly i just run w/ vigor ;P but if u must kill them i usually use glimmer shred as safetypro already stated. also if u want to deal w/ them in norm u could use a doom or a dual dream combo

AFAIK there are no PIs in normal, they only start appearing on unique stone skin ghosts/locust swarm monsters in NM, where the phys resist bonus of stone skin mod and their natural phys resist in NM exceed 100%.
unsynergised, dual dream only adds around 1-1600 (800 avg) to attack and a 1-280 pulse, pretty low damage to count on for such an expensive PI option in hell. oh, and the elemental damage auras dont work with smite.

Gimmershreds and Azurewrath.
Gimmershreds is the answer to OKs while Azurewrath pretty much clears out undead PIs and act2 hell by itself.

I use atma's scarab amulet, which has a ctc of amplify damage. I find it easier to equip a new amulet, rather than have to unequip my cta, put gimmers on, use them, then reequip cta. In order to keep lifetap from overriding amplify damage, i will hit the pi until the immunity disappears, and then allow my merc to finish him. It works about 75 percent of the time. The other 25 percent of the time, i just run away
For oblivion knights, i usually just run around like a little baby until someone else in my party kills them, or i run away, or i go grab my zon.

Some people touched on but didn't quite use my solution. I don't like to use another weapon because I like my CTA on switch. So I use a dream shield with it and syned out the lightning res with 20 hard points. I get my over all lightning res upped with the passive bonus and I use my CTA as a weapon against PI's. The damage is 2203x5 (zeal) elemental which is still very fast and mixed with fant you hit pretty often. Plus with the CTA's prevent monster heal you have no problems with that either. I also don't like relying on curses as my lifetap constantly messes with that. I've actually never seen anyone else use my solution but after trying all the others I find this method far superior.
I play a zealer/1point smite but PI and IM are common problems.I have a cta but if I run areas where oblivion knights are common I usually have a passion phase on switch.1 point in bezerk ko the oks and switch back to main:grin: no more iron maiden problem.1600+ life without cta seems to be plenty in pvm anyway.
Just make a Whateverdin. Then no worries bout any of that. You wont even need CTA.

Passion is cheap, fits a Martyr/Vindicator perfectly (since it gives Zeal regardless of what it's socketed in, though a caduceus is preferrable) and, with Hellfire Torch and Chain Lightning hitpowers, will do enough non-physical damage to make Iron Maiden or physical immunes non-threats without getting in the way of Life Tap from Exile/Dracul's Grasp. In fact, the Life Tap should still counter much of the physical damage you're still doing when maidened, so Amplify Damage, Decrepify or anything else just interferes with the build.
I use the passion solely for oblivion knights. The +1 bezerk nulls any threat from iron maiden.Id rather that than hoping life tap will trigger before im kills.
i have a stormlash in stash just in case
Glimmershed isn't really going to be a "switch". it takes up 2 spaces, and you can always unequip it, and place it in your cube.

Have you guys ever even HEARD of ethereal lacerators?
They do better zeal damage then E-botd or E-D-Cleavers
