Nope. There is a simple equation to the Diablo addiction.
Diablo = Addictiveness of Heroin times 100. Well, I guess not.
But if you're an advocate of GOOD games then you'll always go back to Diablo. I find myself when playing new games thinking "this isn't Diablo." That's basically why I came back to Diablo. 60 hours of game play on one character in Oblivion and then I decided, "this isn't Diablo." And started playing again.

Moving to a "harder drug" is never the answer for addiction.

There is just SO much stuff to find! Then once you start finding it there is SO many things to do with it. Good replay value is what I'm gietting at I suppose.
So many of todays games are all about Graphics, things look incredable, they really do! But where is the game play? I mean you can run around the corner and shoot the guy hidding behind the superiorly wood bump mapped crate with a hand gun, and then a shot gun, and then the machine gun, and then gib him with the rocket lancher, maybe try a granade.... and then what? Run around the next corner and... oh look! there's another wooden crate... gee, I wonder what will be behind that?

d2 > wow
And I'll tell you why. D2 is a game, you don't have to devote your entire life to it to have a very good character and enjoy the game, it could use a little more depth, which I hope d3 will include. WoW is simply absurd, if you want to have a powerful high level character you have to play SO much it's ridiculous. Let's all pray that d3 isn't a life sucking mmorpg and an actual game.
Also d2 is hardcore mode, there is no other way to play it, that's what wow is missing.

I have to agree with Shertown.
I still pay for 2 WoW accounts, yet rarely play anymore. The time you have to devote to doing an endgame raid is just silly. Now, if you do have the free time, then go ahead. The problem I ran into was that your guild will schedule raids, which you are made to feel obligated to attend, at least if you want any say so on drops or really any say so in the guild. Given that raids encompass 20/40 people depending on which one, meshing all those schedules can be difficult.
You get to the point where your friends call and say "Hey, lets go out Friday" and you have to decide between RL and your WoW guild. I'd rather not feel so limited in my gaming.
Diablo 2 feeds the addiction by being a game where you can literally pop on for 15 minutes and do several meph runs, getting a feeling of accomplishment for your characters, then exit bnet and do whatever. You aren't pushed into 4 hour long raids which is what end game WoW is all about. Hell, even if you decide to grind pvp faction, you have to devote time. If you want to casually pvp at high lvls you need a team, pickup games on servers with established pvp guilds will 90% of the time end in defeat for the team that hasn't practiced together and isn't on the same vent channel coordinating everything.
Everything about WoW requires time. If I lose my job or drop outta college again perhaps I'll get back into it, since it is fun, but really, its just too much for most people.
Oh, and yeah, hardcore > sliced bread. Too bad it isn't being duplicated in any real mmorpgs.

Wow, MMORPG, involves players dedicating large amount of time to build their characters. Its a vast virtual world.
D2 on the other hand is a game where you can just pop in for 15mins, mf pindle, meph, andy, etc... Log off and carry on with life. Unless of cos, u wanna go for the magic 99 :badteeth:
The above 2 are cater for people with different mindset. For me I'm the latter. If I'm younger, I might choose WoW... not now. Just dun wanna pour $$ and time into the virtual world

Indeed, but why do all the others have to...SUCK! :( Oh yeah Hp and if you were talking about FPS games then you are quite wrong. Competitive (league play) is much more fun and organized than a public server. Also, with FPS games you can always improve.

Wrong about what? The players might change, the games do not.

ROMG!!!
I'm not the only to have seen the light.
I play Halo 2 competitively and it angers me SO MUCH when people talk about it not being a skillful game. To those people I usually say, I won't even shoot at you and I'll still win.
I'm actually waiting for Vanguard: SoH. That game looks badass.
Guild Wars GvG still has me by the ballz.........

I'm waiting on it too. I've been a member of the forums there since basically they were created. I'm on the list for beta testing  although I've yet to recieve anything about it and apparently they are working on beta 3 right now.
I've been a member on their forums for a while too. I also signed up for beta.

I've been sucked into Gunz Online.. I went through a phase where I loved it for a couple days and then it got boring, but then I figured out K-Style.. and now I love it. Your fingers will get sore with how much button pressing you have to do if you want to be a pro, but it's so much fun. Too bad more hacks were released.. but that's a free game for ya.

I played Gunz online for about 3-4 days... then realized how crappy it was. And K style is stupid. It's like static/orb back in the day.
It's great for a momentary distraction? I mean, bullet time is awesome, but it's just a gimmick.
