View Full Version : The finish of KTA-14, the start of KTA-15
Hi all,
as promished yesterday here our final story of KTA-14 (we think its 14... not all that sure dough), which will be combined with the start/recruitment of KTA-15.
yesterday, even a few minuts before we should be there Waflob and me decided we could do his HF before the rest would arive. into a game and lets do it. soon more people were joining the game, and before we found HF we were with 4 people playing. we found hel rune :lipsrsealed: .1 more guy needed HF so we did 1 more run, and finished this 1 with 5 people.
after this it was time for diablo to find a new place to hide, we didnt want him anymore in that sanctuary of him. just before we went to slay him our skellymancer arrived, and soon met met him. a tough battle begun... NOT. within a few seconds diablo was laying on the ground, and none of us even needed a single potion or whatever... pussy.
the team now was:
bow barb
angel pala
trap assa
wind druid
skelly necro
hammer pala
so we ran of into act 5... and while this is supposed to be the hardest part of the game... we were going at quite a paste. soon we stopped the siege, and rescued some missing soldiers. finding Anya involved the moost dangerous part of the evening. in the cave where she was kept we met large packs of gloams, who would fire an mass. it was me who had the closest call of the evening there of all, and it wasnt even all that bad. problem was its timing, it happening just a second or what after BO were off. it got me down to about 35% life or so, but a quick juv and a tactical rethreat kept me alive. anya was of cource happy to see us, but she didnt show her gracefulness with the presents we all got.. they were utterly useless as ever.
at this moment we realised we still got an our of playing time left, and that finishing this KTA tonight was very possible. we decided to go for it, and went off to find the ancients.
the battle with the ancients was ... uhmm.... well.... no battle at all actualy, as best described by a quote (cant remember from who anymore) "they had "no" mods whatsoever".
down to baal we went, finding easy monsters at lvl 1, finding a bit worse monsters at lvl 3 and finding gloams + IM on lvl 3. we all survived however and without to much of a hussle we got to baal. we killed of his minions and went after the big boss himselve. there a large fight toke place, for some reason he got tons of hitpoints, and killing him toke some time. we were victorious however, and guardianship was reached.
after this we talked a bit about next KTA session, which i will poost in the next reply to this thread.
i had LOADS of fun guys. not only yesterday, but this entire KTA. in the end this was quite a succesfull run, and lets continue our succes into the next Kill Them All.

So…. The idea is to start a new KTA, number 15 we think it is.
All members who were present yesterday have told they are going to join yesterday, so that will be: (if I am correct here, otherwise please correct)

Also someone mentioned he got a friend who would be very willing to join KTA.
The final conclusion is that there are no spots available for public recruitment, at least not till all those above have had their chance to enter.
THEN… THE BIG QUESTION: what will we be doing next KTA, a theme?
Yesterday we agreed that we should be doing SOME kind of theme, the big question is what. Multiple suggestions were discussed, and here is what is the result of that and maybe a bit more:
Option 1:
An all female party.
Option 2:
Sorcs dating Necro’s. this would be 3 sorcs (1 of each element) and 3 necro’s (skellys, psn, bone). Any suggestions for the 2 remaining spots?
Option 3:
A “power” party. Trying to make THE BEST party we can. Problem here is that we would be so overly powerful that all challenge might be lost. Most agreed yesterday that this ain’t a good choice if you want to have fun.
Option 4:
A team of 8 jumping barbs. Although this is BY FAR the most fun option I heard, (imagine… an enemy, and 8 barbs jumping on top… I would probably fall of my chair laughing) I doubt if it is going to work. We could all have different 2th skills however, which could make it work. Stuff like WW, berserk, frenzy, throwing, bows crys. It could be one of the most fun party we have ever played.
Also it is possible to do the same with 8 charge paladins… just imagine. Even a combination of leapers and chargers would be immense fun.
Option 5:
An all melee party.
Option 6:
??? yes.. what is option 6?
So… lets first agree on what THEME we are going to do, and only then start on deciding who plays exactly what character.
Personally I feel the most for the all barb team, although I might like the charge/leap team even better. I simply think that it will HUGE fun, and that it might even be doable with all the aura’s we could have, as well as BO etc. my personal conclusion is that this will be enough of a challenge (remember: it is NOT a problem if we cant kill every monster in under 3 seconds), and by far the most fun we FUN we can get.
A good 2th choise I feel is the sorc/necro action.
Lets go guys.. see what we want and lets do it !

A theme team can be fun. I remember an old version of KTA playing all assassins in a sort of Kill Bill theme :)
If you go 8 leap barbs you can propably go through NM without killing more then the boss monsters since leap can stun and knockback.
I know there was a leaper in KTA earlier and in Chaos for example he could just make short leaps all the time and no monster got close to the party, hehe!

This was fun and I would miss the Monday sessions, so I´m in aswell. As much fun as 8 jumping barbs or charging pallys would be, as risky is it to limit yourself to 1 single character, especially if we play untwinked. Girls only sounds like fun, limiting the mercs aswell to act1 mercs and without a BO or Oak or Salvation or Meditation this would be a real challenge.
For option 2, two priests ( paladins ) could fill the gap to get the couples married. *speaks with high voice* "No honey, I don´t care about your money, I just love your white hair."

it was ME that was the leaper barb in that previous KTA... and indeed, not many know about it, but leap is about THE best crowd controll skill in the Whole game. it stuns and knocks back almoost all enemys (except unique and bosses in think) and gets them into hit recovery. a series of quick hops makes all monsters stuck against the walls unable to do anything at all.
so far the people i know SURE that want to join are:

as for the Theme... all amazons might not be our best Bet... BUT... all bow using caracters could be. bow using barbs and pala's could work well, and would provide BO and some nice aura's.
actualy i like this idea as well... imagine.. a bunch of valks, and behind that stands the artilery. (i was thinking of everyone MUST at least max either strafe or multishot... LOL.. would look great, and would work well as well i guess).. oh.. and arrows... you can buy :thumbsup:
i still think all leaperbarbs and/or chargadins is FUN, and can be made to work

The idea I mentioned yesterday is based on the following.
Each member should:
- not be strong enough to solo hell easily.
- add something unique.
- have a way of inflicting damage (don't want to just sit around like I did with Angel).
- be immune to Iron Maiden curse.
Here is the team suggestion I've come up with over the last week
1. Paladin "Templar/Conviction Cleric"
Unique addition: Conviction
Damage: Fist of the Heavens
2. Paladin "Templar/Salvation"
Unique addition: Salvation
Damage: Fist of the Heavens
3. Barbarian "Singer"

7. Sorceress "Archmage"
Unique addition: Static Field
Damage: Frozen Orb & Thunder Storm & Fire Wall

As for other options, beside the one I listed above, the idea of putting together a team of normally underpowered builds that would complement each other is something I'd like to do. As was noted yesterday this could result in a team that is too good.
There are some builds, like a Elemental Fire Druid, that could spend all points in one skill and it's synergies with no skills spent elsewhere. These are builds that would hardly work solo but it could be fun to try out in a party to see those builds shine.

first things first... can i put you on the list of people defenetly going to join?
second, i like your idea, but what i miss in it is the specific FUN aspect. i see it more as a way to make a bunch of ünderpowered" builds work in a team.
as for fun... i think "The Toads" (great name) simply can't be beaten. a good second would be all bowazons and zillions or arrows flying over the place.
i understand as well that all leaperbarbs limits us in several ways. it won't be easy to win the game with it, it will be a real chalange. there will be lots of room for secondary attack skills however, which will easen it up a bit.
we could even go a little further into this theme, and call it Toads dating princesses, with each barb getting a rogue merc. (wich would be a good thing with IM .

Back when I was in my early teens (10-13 or so) we had a game called "PILE!" with my friends. We usually hanged out in a group so there were like 5+ of us, and when one of us shouted "PILE!" the rest jumped on him literally crushing him to the ground (and pretty much anything that was under him, I remember losing a bed and a tv-table). The leapers remind me of that :sunny:

Generally I like the idea of going all out on one skill/type of skill regardless of what character. And I do like the jumping barb idea just for the laughs. A word of warning though, I hardly ever play barb and don't know the first thing about them. Don't think I have a theme of my own to suggest, plenty of suggestions here already. Just not something too powerful is my preference, I want fun and challenging. And something you couldn't do on your own, something that you could only get away with in a party.
Jesus man, I'm still laughing inside thinking about those jumping barbarians!
Just an idea, couldn't one char be all about mf? Or something like that?
A party with only avatars? Golems, Shadow masters, Valkyries? Let them do all the killing. (Probably not much fun since all you have to do is watch.)
An all dagger team?
Now I'm all out of ideas. Out of the suggestions above, I mostly like the TOADS and also the sorc/necro variant (since I generally like these characters). But how would Toads deal with IM and bad-***-modded bosses? What about Physical immunes?

Edit: If it's a Flying Circus we want, like that PILE! game (I wish my early teens were that fun), we could include assassins with Dragon Flight. Barbs with Jump, paladins with Charge and assassins with Dragon Flight all closing in at once. Talk about monsters being overwhelmed.

While still maintaining the integrity of the basic idea - The Toads - we could include Assassins using Dragon Flight since that works almost like Leap Attack except that it "teleports" the assassin instead. I can't think of any other class that has a similar skill (a sorceress does not attack with teleport).
By including a few assassins we'd get possibilities that could be very useful: Cloak of Shadows, Mind Blast, Blade Fury (IM immunity), Phoenix Strike (vs PI's) or traps (vs PI's).
defenetly read the booyaka article... i just red it again and am already lauching in my chair here. its plain fun...

My thoughts:
1. The one I prefer so far. Builds could be one sorc of each element, bow ama, poison java, lightning java, trap assa, kick assa, leaving us with 3 valks and 2 shadows to do the tanking, as our Rogue mercs will keep the distance aswell. Personal ranking : 1
2. Although these two are my favorite chars, I don´t think the theme will be too much fun. Personal ranking : 3
3. Didn´t we do that in KTA 14? Even more powerful chars would make it too easy. We hardly faced a challenge in hell and the two losses were bad luck combined with bad ideas. Personal ranking : 4
4. I´m starting to like the idea as this would grant all sorts of ridiculous jokes. Everyone using an act 5 merc, would make this look like some crossbreed of "Conan" and "Frogger". The drawback is that if we find items for six classes, they will be of no use for the group and if barb stuff drops, everyone wants to have it. Playing untwinked this will pretty sure become a problem. Personal ranking : 2
5. Please not. I avoid playing melee chars because of IM and being forced to play one without a good theme doesn´t sound much fun. Personal ranking : 5
well, as the necro/sorc was my idea, I guess I'm biased towards that. That has been something that I've been thinking about for quite a while now. However, I 100% agree that the fun aspect is by far the most important.
How's about this for a variation on a theme ...
There was mention of an all zon team, with arrows galore. Maybe this could be 'softened' a bit by using half zons (with different skills) and half pallys, with bows, using different auras ? This would result in an entirely missile based team, but with the advantage of added auras and damage types.
By this I mean using different offensive auras, to add to the damage being dealt by the arrows. Could also work well, having pulses of fire, cold and lite damage going off.
Just a thought ...

Berserk is the natural solution for IM, but watch out for Mana Burn because you'll revert to normal attack when out of mana.
Figuring out different builds all based on 20 Leap + 20 Leap Attack could be tricky. Of course it could be as simple as selecting different weapon masteries. Should Leap/Leap Attack be the main attack or not? IMHO it should which precludes WW, Frenzy etc.
Berserk must be accepted as a back-up because of IM.
I prefer free selection of merc's if we go with the Toads.

the more i think about our TOADS team, the more i like it. of cource there many problems involved, but nothing we arent able to handle. besides... finishing the game with a truely dificult team only makes the feeling better.
about items, Yes... there will be a severe shortage on barb items, but i don't think this will be a real problem. moost items we would be wearing would be about survival, and a leaperbarb can use any melee weapon. so in the range of weapons there should be plenty to find, and items like armors and rings every caracter needs anyhow. IF we realy get difficulties on items we can always mule certain key items in. If that is what it takes to make the team work again... its fine with me.
on the moment i can only think on the absolutely crazy FUN we will have doing this.
if we want a little less of the 1 caracter idea, the flying circus could be fun as well. also solves the item problem a bit.

The problem with non-zon bow users is that bow damage is crap. Unless you are a zon with bow skills we need to get lucky and find decent unique bows. Remember how long it took our Bowbarb to get Harmony together. I wonder what his damage output was before the Magewrath dropped?
Does Holy Fire/Freeze/Shock work with missile or thrown weapons? I don't think so.

don't know about thrown, but it definately works with bows. That would be the difference from the bow barb. Yes, the damage was sad until the magewrath dropped, but the barb was mainly there for the BO. A ranger (pally with bow) is a different story.

The barb/rogue, ama/barb thing sounds good too. Anyway I think I wanna be a jumping barbarian regardless of what we choose. Pleeease? It's so not me, and I want to try it. And a big 2-handed maul I want as well, I've never found any use for one before, being able to wield one would be fun in itself. They lie all over the ground.
Bows ... I don't like.
MAgicbox and alsaan: i think we should wait a bit first to see which of the current guys would be joining.
then if there are spaces free, you are first on the list.
lets wait a bit more and give everyone a chance to reply on the Theme stuff.

Bad news guys, this is what I just read in annother forum:
Well if you use leap attack, and u will get hit in the air by a curse, arrow or any missle you can't use the skill anymore, you need to rejoin. That's why this barb is not really playble.
I guess, I´m going to do some tests ...
I would like to get in on this. Assuming the already participating members are willing to accept me and there is room.

Heya BigD and Socialism. I am afraid spots wont be all that numorous. most are filled in i think, and some others will moost likely be taken bij current members.
you can always stay reserve however, depending on how things fare. moost of the evenings not everyone is able to play so there is room for 1, max 2 reserves. i will put you on the (reserve)list... that is if you can both confirm that our playing time will be OK for you.
we play europe realm, ladder, hardcore. every monday evening, 1930 till 2200paris/amsterdam time. could you guys make that?

After the game I suggested this idea about all-amazon party and I still have to say that it holds appeal. More so than "the Toads" or necro/sorceress combo. This so because amazons can work both behind the lines or in the fronts, and I have never before tried playing as one (sorry, I'm a male roleplayer). The Toads could be interesting to play for a while, but after the novelty-value wears off, we would have difficulties in keeping ranks together. Necro/sorc -idea could work, have nothing against it, but I seriously have to doubt would it be so much fun for the necromancers, since they would have to stay put and fiddle their thumbs most of the time. I know this from experience.

Therefore I suggest that we begin an all-amazon party next week with the following rules:
1. All-amazon, but not necessarily all-female; mercs can be of any type.
2. Build-type free to choose, although valkyries recommended.

This theme would be flexible enough for everyone to create a character they like and thus fun, and it would be different too. Since it is also quite likely that some of us will die or find some RL issues to prevent from participating at some point, the number of players would drop from eight to six, which I find ideal. Two of the players could be something else, like barbs with throwing axe mastery and BO. However, this leads to my alternative suggestion:

1. Barbs dating amazons. 50/50 barb-ama party.
2. Barbs choose throwing axes as their mastery.

Therefore our theme would be barbs/amazons AND ranged attack. I find this setup the best with enough balance and an interesting warrior theme. What do you people say: yay or nay?

i totaly disagree with this, if it is like this the guy playing the necro is doing completely wrong.
in previous KTA's we both had a pure bone necro as well as a curse/psn necro. both worked fine, and didn't exactly had to fiddle their thumbs. actualy the Bone necro was 1 of the key killers in the group at that time.
we all know how a skelly necro works... so no explaining there.
if we would choose this theme i would happyly volunteer for the Bone Necro.
If there are 12-16 players we could make two teams, so let's not discourage public recruitment. :smiley:
we discussed this at the start of last round as well.
there are certain problems involved in deciding who plays in what team. and keeping both teams at the samen point in the game (so members can be switched) might be a chalange as well.
of cource we COULD, if tempted.
I don't find necros tedious either. So many curses, so much to do, if played correctly.
Amazons though I really hate. But in your second suggestion, Wordplay, you included barbs, I say yay to that (but not axes, please!) and nay to your first. Still think the toad/flying circus or necro dating sorc suggestions hold more appeal to me. Going all ranged sound a bit ... cowardly?
If going necro/sorc I prefer playing poison necro or any sorc.
maybe a completely NEW Theme idea... one everyone might be luving?!?!
how about we make it a NO cookiecutter, as much fun and originality team as possible.
what i mean with this is that everybody got to decide what caracter and build to play for himselve, as long as there is:
- originality
- no "over power"
- the less standard the better
- as much FUN as possible
it is not very important that we choose caracters that benifit eachother in the best way, that way we would get to powerfull very soon.
some examples of the type of caracters i mean:
singing/leaper barb
nova/hydra sorc
blade fury/blade sentinel assa
heh.. you guys know what i mean, there will probably be 2145125 FUN builds.

Well, the axes can be dissed for the sake of fun and I do find the latter suggestion better too. So now it is basically about two themes:
1) Barbs dating amazons. Warrior-classes.
2) Necromancers dating sorcerers. Magic-classes.
Since the builds can be anything beside the 50/50 class requirment, both sound good to me. If we decide option #1, I will be a barbarian (ranged build with BO). If is is option #2, I will be a necromancer (bone-spirit build). Staying behind the lines in both cases.

How about "underpowered builds". Where underpowered only means not as widely used. like poisondagger necro, melee sorc, throwing barb, martial arts assasin, fire element druid, and their kin. Fend amazon.Pally, hm, FOH maybe? Of course these will have to be extra careful with IM. IM is pure hate.

I did some first testing with a Toadbarb yesterday and so far I didn´t experience a bug with the leap attack, but I must admit I haven´t been in regions with heavy cursing or ranged attacks yet, so I´ll do more tests.
8 toads could definatly be funny . . . for the monsters. Honestly, leap attack is a horrible skill, even if it is not bugged. Some reasons why 8 toads probably are not a good idea:
Air Time: While the skill plan describes it as "death from above", I would describe it "dead above". If you target monsters half a screen or more away, you have more air time then Micheal Jordan in his best days and while in the air you can´t change your plans or swallow potions, which makes you ... hmm ... vulnerable to say the least. Getting IMed while you zeal can happen, getting IMed while you travel the air is even more likely.
Targeting: If a monster doesn´t move, leap attack can really deal a big blow to it. However most monsters have the habbit to move so you´ll need to practice a lot to forecast, where a monster will be, by the time you are back on the ground. You think you can do that? Well wait until monsters get knocked arround by the knockback from the other toads.
Your resesistances: In order to have a chance to land a hit at all, you will have to choose a weapon with a great range, in other words a two handed weapon, which means no shield and crappy resists. I thought that wouldn´t be a to big issue in normal, when I jumped in a mob of those lightning beetles. Well I was wrong. The knockback while landing filled the whole screen with lightning and finished my barb instantly. More than one barb knocking back beetles will create a really deadly area.
Getting swarmed: Knocked back doesn´t mean stunned, that was something I learned yesterday aswell. When you land, monsters get knocked back around three yards, go through their hit recovery, which is arround 10 frames or 0.4 seconds and then go for you. In the case of those charging zombies and snakes, they are exactly in the best position after 0.4 seconds. Ouch.
Luckily I did my test on SC, otherwise I would have had my first two deeds in normal act 2. Nevertheless I would still take part in the 8 toads team. Could be really funny to see them get their *** handed out before meeting normal baal. :grin:

about the Theme:
i feel as well that a real TOADS team would stand little chance to finish hell, let alone finish it complete. and although it might be devastating fun to play, being killed never is all that much fun.
the idea i like best at this very moment is the ALL bow caracters, with all rogues, idea. i think i would love the sight of zillions of arrows going for it. as tanks we would have some valks, maybe a shadow and a golem.
my proposition as far as THEME is concerned is this:
next week we play the OLD KTA team. we do COWS and NITH, and have some fun. also the new members should join with some of their caracters (if they have 1) . meanwhile we discuss what party would be best for the next time, which we start the monday after.

Let me know what char you're gonna play (and when) - then I can lvl such a char and perhaps join when someone is off doing something else.

Final tests with the toad:
Yesterday I played the toadbarb a little more and I´m sure now, there is no bug. I got hit, cursed and poisened in the air and could still use leap attack. At least in theory, because LA costs 9 mana and young barbs have probably the smallest mana pool arround. I got used to the leaping more and more and when I finally went for Duriel I got finished the third time. The duel went like this, entered chamber, initial leap attack landed a hit, no charge for Duri. Then I got chilled, so my bashes were really slow and I hardly damaged him anymore, but since I was not wearing a shield, he damaged me a lot. When my belt was finally empty, Duriel had more than 2/3 of his life left and so I decided to delete the toad.
Do you still think the toad idea is fun, after playing around with it? Duriel will surely not like 6-8 toads jumping him at once. And there's nothing stopping us from donning shields in the early stages, until we get better gear, more mana, is there?

You are right. Only if Quest solved and WP taken the Portal will disappear. If you want to play in public with your char, I advise you to simply not take the WP, as I did it the other way round with my Summoner in SC, someone joined my Baalrun and did Nihlathak Quest and I couldn´t get easy Summons anymore.

We finally decided to go with an all-girls team and the six of us who were there last evening created a team of three sorceresses, two amazons and one assassin.
After finishing the Cain quest we stopped for the evening.
There is a naming convention which potential future members might want to follow: "KTA-xxxxxMe". For example: "KTA-KickMe".
The names chosen were fairly juvenile. I believe LickMe and SpankMe are now taken. :rolleyes:
My assassin, "KTA-TribMe", will be a Fire Trapsin.
The preliminary skill plan is:
20 Fire Blast
20 Wake of Fire
20 Wake of Inferno
20 Death Sentry
Probably not enough skill points to get more than 1 point SW or SM.
I have never played a fire trapsin before, which is one reason I chose this, so information about WoF, WoI and to some extent FB is welcome! :smiley:
