It's been a long time since I've been on these forums, much less played Diablo II. Anyways, I'm not really sure where this question belongs as it's not a "bug" or "suggestion," but it would seem that it belongs here moreso than in a player class forum. Anyways, here it is:
I got my laptop last year around this time before I left for my first year of college. I wanted to install Diablo II on it so I did. However, once the install was complete and my Battle.net stuff was registered I began to have some problems. I was able to get into one game, then everything slowed down and crashed and I was unable to get back into the Diablo II program as a whole. Anytime I put the CD in the drive it would whir like crazy and nothing would happen. WHENEVER I used my computer - CD in the drive or 10 feet on the other side of a room - it had some of the same problems. Everything was drastically slowed down, etc. Essentially it came down to this: the Diablo II (and LOD) install ruined my computer. Even after I uninstalled it the problems remained; crashing/slowing-down of every aspect of my computer.
As the start for school got nearer, I just thought "screw it" and did a "hard reset" of the computer (resetting it to OEM configuration) and reinstalled/cleaned off everything else but Diablo II and LOD. Unfortunately, I never really followed up too much on the problem and I haven't played Diablo II since (hahahaha). Anyways, I read some articles and reviews and such and came across what one potential problem might have been. Aparently users with the same/similar graphics card that I had had roughly the same problems; for some reason Diablo II and LOD didn't like my card or whatever. I will list my specs towards the end, but I suppose when it gets down to it, my question is this; have any of you ever had problems like this and how did you fix them etc.?
I have also sent an email to the Blizzard tech support/etc. but am still waiting for a response. I think what I was told at the time was that my card was "too good" for the game...which is odd because I had older games (like Starcraft and Broodwar) that worked just fine with the same configuration/setup.
Anyways, here's my specs:
Dell Inspiron 6000
ATI Mobility Radeon X300 Graphics Card
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2-ZS Sound Card
1 Gigabyte RAM
1.86 GhZ Processor Speed
Sony DVD+RW DW-D56A (CD/DVD-ROM)
Maybe this problem was fixed in the latest patch or whatnot, or maybe I just have to update the driver. Either way, I'm waiting for some solid answers before I try another install and risk losing all my school work from last year.
...sorry for the long post, but thanks a bunch in advance to those who will respond! I know the people here on the forums are as helpful now as they have been in the past; thanks! (to admin; if this is in the wrong thread, could you please redirect me to where it would be appropriate to post this?)
