I can't get on battle.net!

I have tried several times to connect to battle.net and I'm not getting on. I have a via dsl modem and I am 100 percent sure I am connected. Everytime I try to connect I get this message.

I downloaded the lastest patch and I don't know what else to try.

I disabled my firewall. I have a router how do I check if I have to open ports? Ive already gone to the blizzard support 7 times already. They aren't much help.

Go to http://www.portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/DiabloII/DiabloIIindex.htm and select your router model. It'll display instructions on how to open up the necessary ports.

You're 100% sure those ports are now open? In other words, if you close down the router page, switch the router off, turn it back on and re-open the router page, those NAT entries for the ports would still be there?

Also, you never really answered the question about whether or not this happens for all realms.

Assuming the ports are indeed open, then I'd recommend trying to connect to battle.net via Telnet (http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt0631p1). If that doesn't work, then do a trace route to try and identify where the problem is occuring (http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt0631p2).

I'll triple check the ports but I'm sure the entries are saved and I have tried all the the realms. That was the first thing I did. Thanks for your help so far. Ive been trying to get this to work for 4 hours now and I'm not giving up on it. XD

Alright. Try and connect to battle.net via telnet and see how that goes. Basically, we want to confirm that it's not an issue with D2 itself.

Then it might just be a temporary issue. If it persists for awhile (such as a complete day, without any access to USWest) then try to reset your server list (http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt0633p), as USWest might have become corrupt, though if it had it would usually result in a constant querying gateway.

If you want, you can try to reset your server list anyway. Failing that, try to telnet to USWest or do a trace route to USWest (see my posts above) to try to identify the cause of the problem. It's possible that there could be a server down between you and AT&T or other connection issue.

I have the same problem. I cannot play/connect to the europe realm. All other realms are accessible, but not the one i need. I had this problem last week, after 3 days it was possible to play again.
Today i get this message again: I cannot connect to europe realm and US west??. Us east or asia i can connect to.
It looks like a tempban to me, but all i did yesterday was muling, jumping in and out of games faster than usual, seems like a bot protection to me, i have no other explaination and no clue how to stop this.

Its the so-called temporary restriction. Aka Temp Ban, a measure to stop botting. The system monitors the number of games you create/join, the number of reloggings and similar. If it decides you are creating too many games in too little time you get banned for a period of time between 15 mins and like 3 days. I also believe it monitors character behaviour, but thats entering rumours zone. My experience shows that if you perform very similar runs you'll get temp banned faster :D

I believe this is to stop bots - Pindleskin was very popular a long time ago, bots could create game, kill him, loot and exit game in like 10 seconds. Try to do like 10-15 such runs now and you are guaranteed to get temporary banned.

If you were caught hacking you'd get your account banned for 90 days. Well guess what, after 90 days of inactivity the accounts get deleted :D. Been there done that lol.



On the topic of temporary bans, there are 2 ways to get out of it - wait till it expires on its own (can be 3 days..), or change your IP and log on Bnet -the temp bans are IP-based. If you have a really static IP you are screwed and have to wait.

I've had this problem now for 5 days... I've heard that if you try to go around the ban by changing IP-adress, you're account can be banned. Anyone else know something more about this?
