Was there even one hardcore classic lvl 99?I believe the highest in the US East was 96 sorc (almost sure her name was she_sgoodII) and a paladin. Dont remember hc tho :(. so cant answer that part.
Iirc, last time (on europe at least) the classic hardcore was higher lvl (or at least had more exp, might still have been same level) than the softcore classic. Thats somewhat nice.

I'm pretty sure no one has gotten to level 99 in classic since 1.10 came out. I know that Europe had expansion level 99s last season.

Hccl Europe owned any SCCL realm for a long time... when the highest was like 93/94 they were almost at 96 already.
hmm last round in europe highest SC was oceanemotion lv 96 pala (only just made 96 by about 1 month before the end)
at level 95 you get 20-25k per cs run in 7ppl games, virtually all from Diablo himself, that is 40-50 runs per million exp, it is very difficult to do more than 200 runs a day, if you switched keys every 15-20 runs to avoid realm down you could do maybe 30 runs an hour, if you factor in breaks 200 runs is best part of 7 hours if you think you can do that day in day out for 50 days you might make it from 95 to 96, each level you go up the exp virtually halves so the amount of time doubles, think it is 10-15k a cs at 96, or so nick-nas (first person to 96 in classic this round) told me.
With regards to HC this round EF was winning by along way (first to lv 95 long before SC made it) but that was a team of two ppl playing a two players 8 character private loader cs games (each person controlling 4 characters most of which are fillers to bump up the exp) until he rip, now KURWO has taken over and is exping alot in public games.

Help a new guy out who hasn't ever gotten a char into the 90s...
How many CS runs are we talking about here on classic to move levels in the 90s? 1,000, 10,000 100,000?

hmm it does depend on what type of character you play and what sort of cs runs you do but the standard run at
lv 89 gives 350-450k exp per cs and lv 89 to 90 is 134 million so that is about300-400 cs runs
lv 90 gives 200-300k exp per cs and lv 90 to 91 is 146 million so that is about 500-700 cs runs
lv 91 is about 1200-1500 cs runs to 92
lv 92 is about 2200-2500 cs runs to 93
dont remember now as my lv 93 char been there awhile now, at
lv 93 you get about 40-45k a run which is 4200-4500 runs

Yeah, CoF and Darksol can't even do it with 4/5 people on the same char.

she_sgood was #1, she_sgoodII was accidently deleted at around 2030m this season.
Last Lad east had 6 95s..
#1 she_sgood
#2 PassDaBonG (CoF_BonG)
OuTLaWeD(MiG), CoF_AnGeLsTeArS, SilentFlight (PO_DinDin), and AoD_OmniPotent (no order for the last 4)
I have the results of last lad around somewhere.

...lv 93 you get about 40-45k a run...
And I can confirm how much a lvl 98 makes in classic: last checked a lvl 98 can get about 9000 exp per run. This is about 1/10 of what a lvl 98 could make before 1.10 came out. He would make about 60K off of diablo and the rest in river and cs monsters, with the bosses and seal bosses being the best. The fastest I ever heard of anyone getting from 98-99 in old classic was 3 weeks, now multiply that by 10, its over half a year in this patch.
This exp penalty curve was constucted after extensive testing of LoD chars for that patch, kicking in around clvl 70. And before referencing that the game looks to see if u are more than 5 levels over the monster u just killed. Even tho we fight monsters with probably the same hitpoints, AI, immunities and resists as the LoD folks, Blizzard still uses the old monster levels - river/cs around 80, urdars 82, diablo 90 - so we get very little after lvl 92, only 5% of the monster exp, except from diablo. But then the clvl exp penalty curve robs even that. In LoD, many, most or all the monsters in late actIV-V are lvl 90's. I say that because of the earlier act monsters such as skellies plastered all over actV in 1.10, and roughly half of Baals spawning minion packs give poor exp once u hit clvl 96+.
The last time anyone made it to 99 on classic was about 1-2 days before patch 1.10 came on Oct. 28th 2003. I believe it was Lau's 2nd zon to make it, and about the 12th char over the 2 year ladder on the USWest softcore realm. People were talking over the next few days as if she had gotten some sort of "inside word" as to the exact date of the patch.

This is not true - monster levels other than special monsters are 85 max, champions 87, uniques 88. This includes Baal's minions, they just give a large bonus to experience.

You're right on some points, not right on Baals minions, i was reading up on this only after I posted. I vaguely remember during 1.08 that all the monsters from Kurast Causeway and beyond were at least lvl 90. I knew it was cut back in 1.10, cuz too easy exp gaining. It says over at the battle.net site that most river and cs monsters in LoD are around 84-85. Also, the usual ActV monsters are about the same exp. Diablo is 94, Baal 99, Minions of Destr (the last spawn) is 92, Venom Lord and Council throneroom spawns are both 93. (I watched the council exp once in Baal's throneroom back after 1.10 came out and it wasnt that good.) Interestingly, the Moon/Blood Lords who frenzy with the big axes arent especially high, they and the Black Souls are the worst monsters to run into down there, along with the 'guest' monster - the Oblivion Knight.
There can be some confusion when talking about "Baal's minions" as there are some not very powerful short creatures (with clubs?) in actV with that exact name. Most ppl when they speak of "Baal's minions" are really talking about the spawning groups in the throneroom, including the last group, the Minions of Destruction, including Lister. Also, Blood Lords can be the vampiric fireball dudes in act3 or the Moon Lords of act5, confusing.

Lister is badass.
The Arreat Summit's information isn't always correct, you know.
Unless you can provide us with a more accurate source, it's the best thing we've got for that information.

LOL. That reminds me of the 1984 Geraldine Ferraro vs. George Bush for V.P. debate. Ferraro in her opening salvo said that women only earn 60% of what men earn (of course, not matched for the particular job and level within that profession, it really was supposed to be about 93% then). Bush countered with some numbers and Ferraro said: "Well, I never trusted statistics."

most of the kids that play d2 weren't quite born yet.
(I was running cross country in highschool during those debates)
as for the question at hand.
clearly, the easiest way to do this, is to raid your very own private/full cs, and I would think that two people, using multiple laptops/cds could quite easily manage to get 8 chars/accounts in a game, use one to bo a sorc/pally and then go clear the cs with just two chars..
in effect, implementing the "experience hack" that reportedly was around in earlier patches for single player mode.

There are 4 level 96 in europe, in SC the first Nick-Nas was deleted for some reason and he remade. PoS-PrimuS is now at 2,827,000,000+ which is 132million from lv 97 :sad2: (and PoS-GoD who is just over lv 96).
IN HC Kurwo is 96 with 2,764,000,000+ over 200 million away from 97.

Nick_Nas was hacked+deleted, and the name was leveled up to the bottom of the ladder to drop it off by Marcin (aka Diia on HCCL)
PoS-PrimuS just recently started leveling again, he had breaked for a long time around 2817mil or so.
KURWO is still CSing as far as I know, and is also known as TakrinaII (level 94, 2405m, dead HC sorc, RIP to timeout, dropped about half a second after death), MuckiGoesOnTop (dead 92 barb at base xp), and Kleiner_Mucki (lvl 93, 2128m, HC barb).
Europe kicks the *** of all the East team chars.

speaking of hacks someone hacked baby of punk's amazon lv 94 lady was number 3 or 4 on SC ladder for a long time and highest lady on all the realms for ages then someone baronessed her and took her down to base lv 94 by dying over and over. Some ppl are nasty but im guessing some ppl are too trusting.
I know for a fact that nick_nas had someone helping him level for a while. Once more than one person knows your password you are pushing your luck.
There was someone that got friendly with some of the top players and stole all the bvb items from the top barb at the time HimlutschlerJoe and other ppls items, Joe stopped playing after that.

Some time after he hit 96, Nick_Nas moved from Italy to Canada and was done with D2 for the season, and he let two of his friends make a run at 97, but one of them was keylogged.
Yesterday I just passed KURWO, and now exp is at 2,766M. (Asia 1 Realm)
So KURWO is not highest classic hc char any more.
If possible, I will try 97 level.
btw: I come from China, and now live in Shanghai. I am a member of HFC clan.
HFC means Heroes From China.

He's on HFC in the first screenshot. Playing with a clan is essential on the Asia realms because especially Asia2 HCCL, hardly anybody plays.
Congratulations on that too.

But is it a clan that plays there own characters or do they share them out, im guessing they take turns playing HFC as he has no extension?
Lol yes talk about a clan owning a ladder only 5 out of top 16 not in clan

ps:
Our clan was built in 2000, since Diablo II 1.08 came out.
We got more than 50 members during 1.09, but most of them quit for WoW.
Only kyo, bys, zhangjian and me stayed in Diablo II.
My name is shufe or long.

Congrats. I have yet to get a char over 88, so to me 96 is one heck of a feat. And I play SC, so on hardcore, it's even more of a accomplishment.
You live in the future, about 6 timezones in the future from where I stand/sit/ly.

Just a wild guess, but do you also use Iratha's full set ?
Since all the res's aren't capped at 75 and still white.

Yup!
I use those following items:
Iratha's full set
Hotspur
The Ward (50)
Spectral Shard

rare rings (one:10fcr/11str/11dex/10sta/30fr; the other:77ar/15str/3replife/10sta/23fr/2mdr)

it's definately a grind. especially for someone that works, is a parent, and still attends classes. o.O
I got my first 90 this past weekend, a din on softcore ladder. I'm definately not ready to think about hardcore yet.
what's amazing to me, is the mid 90s barbarians on laddder, in a single season, hardcore, or softcore. that is an assload of leaching to get that high. highest barb I've had, is an 88 untweaked martel/itemfinder baba on NL.

196 million to level... mind me asking how much exp do you get from clearing a cs run solo? it can't be all that fast either, with sub 7k hammers, even if you are able to tank everything in there.
I'm just curious if you did any preliminary math in terms of how many flawless runs you'd need to level, and then applied more math to find out overall, how much time based on X minutes per run.
either way, kudo's, congrat's, and everything else. :)
mind me asking how much exp do you get from clearing a cs run solo?
By soloing 4ppl diablo with exp shrine, 96 lvl pala can get 27k(27,507).
Each cs run need at least 4.5 min, usually 5 min or so.
That means it takes me about 167min to get 1 mil exp.:wink3:

by that math, under ideal settings, that's 545.53 straight hours of play (ideal meaning finding a handy/close xs shrine nearby, and/or not having to go juv hunting inbetween runs if you happened to get LowerResistCursed and/or Infector spawns with conviction.)
I had that happen during a bo-less raid attempt on my lvl 90 Din, in an 8 person trading game on softcore. OUCH. I ran through 2 juvs before I could switch to salvation, and charge away before getting recursd with amp I think it was. even at that, infector's conviction took its toll on me, forcing a couple of super healing pots in between running away, and redeeming earlier kills... I have 9k hammers according to the char screen, so I shudder to think about how that would have gone with a shard/ward and no din ammy...
anyway, for perspective, your mission will consume at best: 22.7 straight 24 hour days o.O
2 or 3 hours per night (even that gets old after a while) would cut this to just under a year...
