Stop the Lag on bnet?

The lag on bnet the last few weeks was really annoying. Now I understand this is caused by dupers mainly.

Although its much better the last few days...Can someone please explain to me how duping causes lag and how can you prevent this from happening?

What ive understood its the other way around. Lag causes duping. They (dupers) somehow lag the servers until they crash and fiddle around with items to dupe them.
How to prevent it?
Changing something to make it harder to cause lag (bugmerc fixed)
Or getting better servers to better uphold the stress of gameplay. Making it also harder to lag a server to crashing point. Somethin along those lines.
This is kinda walking on a thin line explaining duping, so ill stop here. Hope its not too late.

I always thought lag was related to botting. A person using bots means another character online on the realm. 10000 persons using bots means 10000 chars that normally wouldnt be on.
More chars = more bandwidth used = more lag.
The more-the slower.

Also, keep in mind bots are not like the everyday idler that stays in a channel when not playing (some people do idle 24/7 when not playing...), but bots play constantly.
