Hi, I've been reading this forum for a few weeks trying to absorb the more technical side of this game, but I have a few questions that I hope people aren't too elite to answer. I bought the game when it first came out and this is my third time back, but now I'm actually getting into the game now...

#1 Ladder Chars
I've never played long enough consistently to see a "ladder reset". I assume that your ladder char gets put into non-ladder mode or something. Since I've never played anything other than a ladder char, I'm not sure. Do you loose your stuff too, or does it just go into non-ladder mode, kind of like a dumping ground for old ladder items and chars?

#2 MF Drops
I've got a lvl 83 MF blizz sorc and have started doing Hell MF runs on Andy/Mephy (thanks for the thread on the Mephy moat trick!). I tried countess, but there are some serious, fast cold immunes down there - is this just off limits for a straight blizz sorc? Also, how could I run Hell Duriel... is there any way to know which tomb is the right one after the quest is done?

#3 Lightning Resist
I'm seeing items that are majorly single resistance based:

Jade Blade - Max Poision up to 95
Nokozan Ammy - Max Fire up to 85
Hawkmail - Max Cold to 90

Is there anything weighted for Lightning in classic? (Which gives major lightning resist + x to max)

#4 Gull Finding
Gull seems to be very popular to trade for 2nd tier items. (even for 1st tier if the seeker is desparate enough) My assumption is that you can find this dagger anywhere in Norm through hell because it's item level is 6... is that correct?

Thanks, in advance!

#1: You are correct; at the ladder reset, ladder characters are dumped into nonladder. No items should be lost in this process.

#2: Never tried countess in classic. It appears that all of the hell melee rogues are cold immune, which seems like it would make killing the countess difficult for a blizzer.

Re Duriel: There are 6 floating symbols by the summoner, and there are 7 tombs. The symbol that is missing is the symbol of the tomb. I think the red portal still exists even after you've done the quest, so one could be able to simply go back through it after taking the canyon wp. That having been said, i've never actually tried to run duriel, nor do i know how well he drops things, etc...

#3: Darkglow adds 5% to all max res, sparkling adds 30 to lightning, stormguild adds 25, coif adds 30... but i don't think there are really specialized lightning items... didn't do a throurough check however.

#4: The problem with finding Gull is that it is a TC 3 item, the lowest treasure class. The way that drops work make it very rare for many monsters to drop it. Check Hru's mf guide for more info and also for monsters who drop it frequently. Some build characters around finding this and other rare TC3 items, like hotspur, etc... A thread on one such character type, a holy shock using paladin, is here: http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=474884
I made one like this--currently lvl 47. So far have found 1 gull off of a random boss in cats lvl 3.

#2 just make Duriel opener and have friend to play with you (of course not needed if you can wait 5 min before leaving and re-entering game --> game saves in server). How you make this, easy -> dont complete Duriel quest just put staff there and leave that char there. Then when you make game with this char you see which symbol it is and you can re-enter with your MF char... Hope this cleared up a bit.

Thanks! I've got a lot of info to work on and try out!

I ran duriel a couple of times and well, you remember his quest drops ? Not that great either, now imagine that drop without the quest flag, yeah, no point ever going to duriel again, unless you want to fill up your potions the hard way. He should give you one potion per run, if you're lucky, you will get some arrows too.

The red portal is not there when you make a new game, regardless of your quest status.

Don't bother with countess in classic, she's only used for runes + tkeys in LoD. Andy+Meph would be your best bets. For killing either of them I just blizz right below them to clear anything that was there, then tele where I blizzed and shoot some ice blasts and more blizzes as needed. If you can't tank it, then just stay back. Andy should be easy, meph might take a few life pots.

Duriel drops usually suck anyway, cept that time I found an SOJ off her in NM while rushing.

Moat trick makes Meph easiest act boss with a blizzer, IMO.

Duriel is a girl? I guess s/he is probably the first act boss in classic from whom you can get a stone in nmare, which could possibly be an advantage. Not that you should do duriel, but i don't think it should take long to find the summoner from arcane with teleport.

Yeah, I tried moat trick for the first time last night and felt like a pro (except the time I moved 1 pixel within hell mephy's range and got immediately french fried with my no-resist mf gear on)

I'll take the Duriel advice... and stay away. It seemed like a lot of trouble to get there in hell, but I thought it might be one of those "lots of risk, lot of rewards" type trade off.

Last night, my first few runs on mephy netted me some rare high def plate (850+), so I'm encouraged!

edit * I guess Duriel is a girl (never really thought about it)... with that big maggot spawn bag on her back that pops after she dies. (bleccck)

only thing "good" I've found off dury was a pair of hot spurs off her during a hell rush.

:| otherwise, like most of act 2, I just try go get out/through act2 as quickly as possible.

doesnt duriel have the biggest chance of dropping a SOJ?
(or quite high, in the first three at least?)

Ive seen a WOW movie, where people "pulled" a monster to some low level area. The monster looked like Duriel and was swarmed by low levels :D

Countess is dual immune in Hell(Fire/Cold), and as Zodi pointed out doesn't drop anything worth of effort in Classic.
I found my 2 Gulls in normal, 1 from Andy, one in Tristram. If you play in Europe non-ladder I may be willing to trade one of them for Magefist or Goldskin, these 2 have eluded me so far...

I'll take you up on that offer. I have a pair of magefists lying around and I have you added to my list anyway. :)

Sweet, I'll join this night and do some Trav runs with my Barb, though it may be late by your standards. But I'll be on again tomorrow night.

Personally I consider it very bad form to step in on a deal at such a late time, dropship. One could consider our deal closed depending on how one interprates the wording. Bit like shouting "10 cents more !" at an auction after the hammer fell.

Had me and Noite arranged this trough the tradeforums one of the guidelines would have applied.
I wager without my reply, or without Noite's reply to my pm, you would not even have seen this.

Quite the turn-around, especially after I gave you those good deals on the amulets and snaps for mere gold.

Consider this a trade forum.

It is bad manners to try to wedge your way into a deal once it seems solid. Not only that, but I am going to check with the other trade mods to see what they do when this happens in their forums. If they ban for it, I will do the same here.

they get a slap on the wrist for trying to jack the trade....i did see doc ban a tradejacker a long time ago but the guy just didn't get it and was rude when called on it....europe is very strict about deals made on the forum...bust a deal face the wheel.

Besides, use the trade thread for trades.

I am in the process of writing the Classic forum rules. Since no one chimed in on my thread asking for input, it will be my rules. I will include a note on this subject.

Wow, I go out for 5 hours or so and what happens while I am gone?

I deleted 5 posts. But they remain where I can see them or be restored for some reason if necessary.

fledgeling, you are banned for 5 days for your tantrum. I am disappointed. E-mail me if you have something to say to me. You're lucky you aren't banned forever. But I realize people have bad days once in a while. You have been a good contributor here and would hate to lose you over a bad day.

But if you choose to make another account while under ban, you will be gone forever. Come back and bahave like a responsible adult and you get to stay. Rules are rules, and I do my best to enforce them. I also cut people breaks when I think it is appropriate or if I like or respect them. I am not here all the time. I have a family and a full time job. I trust you guys to act responsibly when I am gone.
