whenever Im trying to start up the diablo 2 game this window pops up saying "we got a big error here :( " including that little frowning face...and the game wont start up so I cant play because of this damn thing...is this a virus or what....can anyone help:cry:
I believe the error message "We got a big error here" is one used by D2Loader. Try to start the game without any third party programs, and see if it works.

where do I go to remove this stuff
where do I go to remove this stuff
Easiest way is to uninstall D2 and reinstall it.

you may have to find and manually delete all d2loader files...when you re-install does it make a new directory? is the old directory deleted?

The files in the old directory are overwritten, I believe. The folders themselves, however, are left, as are any folders you've inserted into them - such as maphacks, loaders, etc.
Gamefreak - Try this. Uninstall D2 entirely. If you want to save any single player characters if you have any, copy the "save" folder onto your desktop from inside the Diablo 2 folder, usually found at C:/Program Files/Diablo 2
Then deleted that Diablo 2 folder entirely. Get rid of it. Delete the loader, as well, not just because hacks are bad (Mmmmkay?), but because whatever you're doing is messing it up. Look at all the shortcuts you have, and delete those too. Remove EVERYTHING from your computer that relates to Diablo 2. THEN reinstall. There is no standard D2 message that says "We have a big problem here!", so you have to completely purge any 3rd party program from your system.

I always delete the old directory when I reinstall it

well looks like it's scavenger hunt time...find out where the d2loader files are hiding and delete them.
this IS a d2loader error message.

can you tell me where to look cuz Im not sure where

My guess would be to do a full system search on your computer for "d2loader". If that doesn't work, try "diiloader". If both those fail, try "d2", then "dii". Be very careful with those others, because it's a good chance it'll bring up something that isn't related to d2loader. Look for the folder that it was installed to, not individual files.

Another choice is to restore your system to a date before you were having this problem, then uninstall. If you've uninstalled 5 times and deleted the directory and program files and its STILL giving error messages...well...time to get a new disc.
$5 at a discount bookstore.

his problem has nothing to do with his disk...he downloaded and installed d2loader or he dowloaded and installed a maphack that came packaged with d2loader.
i have no idea where it installs...most members here won't either because we prefer to play legit.

well keep looking then....have you tried looking in the directory that the maphack installs itself to? last suggestion would be to re-install the hack itself and try to figure out where it puts the files...you are lucky you still have your accounts intact...blizzard can ban your account for using 3rd party programs....another thing to consider....these hacks sometimes come with a keylogger...be sure to clean your system too.\
edit...ok be sure to check for trojans.

Out of interest sake, how are you starting the game? Do you have the CD in? Are you using a shortcut that was probably created through the installation, or are you using game.exe or Diablo II.exe that are found in the installation directory?

Why would you play with a loader anyhow *rolls eyes*
Did you try someone's earlier suggestion of System Restore-ing to before the error first showed up?
It sounds like a DLL problem. I am not sure you play SP or bnet. If you always can play for the first time just after you install the DII LOD, Try keep a backup of all the DLL files and patch_d2.mpq just after the installation. You also can try downloading clean DLL for your version from here:
http://phrozenkeep.it-point.com/forum/dload.php?action=category&cat_id=28
Your register key entries for DII LOD (if you know how to use regedit under windows) may also not good. Try to delete all register key entries for Diablo II or blizzard and install again.
If it broken again copy back the backup version of DDL and patch_d2.mpq.

May be you installed something by mistake. May be non 3rd program installed, d2 broken itself. the file to run d2loader is neither diabloii nor game. So if you run D2 from diabloii or game.exe, and never change fiile names in d2 directory. Then it is northing relate to the loader. God know what that error come from, may be from d2 itself and the loader may can trigger it. clean up the register entries relate to diabloii and blizzard (if d2 is the only game in your computer that belong to bilzzard) and delete the d2 directory. reinstall and backup the DLLs.

d2 broken itself.
I don't think it's a diablo error.
It's certainly from maphack or a loader.
