There are some guides for this build in the Sorceress forum. So I'm assuming it's still viable.

oh ok i saw them, its just sometimes im not shure what ones to trust or not... because i have found different guides that are outdated on some websites... but im not shure if these guides on this website are updated for only 1.11.
so sometimes i tend to doubt
These days the only melee sorcs around are dual dream sorcs. These are actually really affective ( I might be biased since i have one), but they are expensive to build (you need 2 dream runewords obviously!).
I dont know about standard enchantresses, probably not that strong for solo pvm, but doable i would imagine. Im about to try a titan melee sorc, but I dont expect her to do too well

They didn't change anything in 1.11 for enchantresses, besides maybe Enlightenment (which I don't think synergises anyhow) and whatever charges people were abusing as synergies for backup spells.
Check the sorc forum, man. This thread will get moved there anyway.

It depends. PvM, if you max enchant, warmth and fire mastery, you could get away with 1 dream. A cheapie single dream sorc does 10k lightning damage and 5k fire damage a hit, which is more than enough for most situations and is viable for MFing even without infinity due to it being dual elemental.
I just built my first dual dreamie for pvm MFing because I was tired of the stream of blizzard sorces, lit sorces and hammerdins, and I'm extremely satisfied. I have a total of 280 mf, but I have tried it with one dream, a nice resist shield and skullder's ire for a total of about 450 MF and my kill speed did not go down drastically being that this is solo MFing.
I have a zeal-enchant sorc with a Kingslayer, silver edged axe (vengeance) on switch. She is extremely frustrating to play. Even with 45% dr and max res (apart from fire, which is 56%) she dies all the time. Sorcs just can't take any hits.

Sorcs can take hits and be PI through Eldritch in Hell. Just a matter of wearing the right gear (pricey) and using the skills

I have tried dual dream with maxed block (ended up at about 1.5k life with CTA) and with straight vitality (ended up past 2k with CTA) and found that for PvM it makes no difference if you go either. You just need good equipment. Mine is equipped with:
Dream Tiara
Dream Tower Shield
Dusk CoH (this can be switched with Smoke easily)
Passion Phase
Goldwrap
Chance Guards
163/15 ravenfrost
25% nagelring
39% War Travs
21 res maras
11/19 sorc torch
17/14 anni
5bo CTA (made myself, not traded for) paired with a Lidless
Her inv is otherwise full of MF charms and about 3 vita scs. No lit skillers whatsoever, since I am a MFer and I want the max amount of space to carry things. I also have no FCR, which can be a little annoying but is not dealbreaking. I keep a wizzy and a pair of magefists in the stash for when I am teleing Baal games.
the only places she has trouble with is Travincal (actually, it's just the merc that has trouble with it, he gets mauled and then I have no conviction) and Chaos Sanctuary (I almost died in NORMAL mode the other day from iron maiden.) I find that I kill so fast that I could probably tank with no CTA at all. If I roll a good amount of lightning I kill Thresh and Andy in one hit. Meph goes down in roughly three. There's no time for the monsters to stop and kill me, and my holy shock pulses kill off many monsters in the Pit before they even reach me.

i've just started thinking about making a melee sorc, and from what i've read so far, they sound pretty good. but thinking about stat distrabution, for every point in vita, u get less for every point in nrg. so doesn't it make sence to use ES? also, you don't rely on mana as much with a melee sorc, sowhy not use ES and put points in nrg insteasd of vita.
just a thought, if u don't agree, please tell me cus thats what im going to do with mine unless a expereinced player ses otherwise.
Another thing to keep in mind. ES mfers do well, even with like 1k life and 3k mana. im going to make one eventually, you can pm me after lad restarts, thats when ill have it.

erm, if it is working well, why switch it for something better? I'm not the kind of person who has to has perfect equipment I can flash around and impress people with. for instance, I could easily obtain a perfect AP coh, yet I leave my uber-smiter's crappy 714 def (yes, 714 def)AP coh on him. He does fine with it, so why bother?

Because when you are in close combat with a mana burner, you will be eviscerated. Especially considering Dream has no blocking mods whatsoever, so you are a prime target for a beatdown. You will not only have no mana left at all to teleport with, but you will also be right next to a very nasty monster as opposed to across the screen. I don't want to say that NO melee build should rely on ES, because I'm sure that someone somewhere has built one, but I would recommend avoiding it. You will be done with your main build (fully synergized enchant and lightning mastery) at around level 75, but you can always funnel the extra points into Frozen Orb and have the most viable tri-elementalist in the game.
If you use Insight instead of Infinity on your merc, combine it with max warmth and have a weapon with a nice amount of mana steal on it, like BotD, it may be possible to pull off. But you will only attack monsters one by one and that's not much fun.
i totally for got about mana burn, your right about that, but what about pvp?
and i also forgot to mention the build wold put more than one point into warmth, for rapid mana replenishing even when you're teleing(if u are going to) and attacking. why not throw in a "damage goes to mana" item, i think its in a rune too, and with ES at its cap, like 95% or something, no damage will go thru to life, and i think warmth will go faster than mana leech, for those melee pvp chars and even some monsters maybe.
you could maybe make a enchantress with dreams and/or dragons and just put 1-5 into ES, 20 enchant, 20 FM, 20 LM(depends on if using dragon and/or dream), 10 or so warmth, and 5 or so ice armor(i for got exact name) and replace either FM or LM and put 16 telek or instead of dream helm just put on a vamp and whatever rune has "dmg goes to mana". if there isn't a ruen liek that, theres bound to be some helm with that mod. with that, i think you could put all points into nrg rather than vita. maybe make a good pvp char out of it?
im new at melee(any char that usually is caster, i.e nec, sorc), so if that build sucks, please tell me and ill rethink.
