It's been a while since I've played a normal lightning sorc, so I figured I'd rebuild my 1st ladder char - But, having trouble deciding on gear, balancing a high eshield pool vs resists vs damage.

Three Setups, as I can see it, Target level will be 89 to start:
Enigma provides 66.75 str at 89, my crafted ammy also requires that lvl.

Boots: Silks
Belt: Arach
Rings: 2x Soj
Gloves: Frostburns
Ammy: +2/16fc/mana

Seems ok.
The main problem I'm having is deciding whether, a mass energy build (no real focus on blocking or resists):

Shield: eth Spirit monarch
Helm: +2sorc, 20fc, 10fhr, 27str, 88 mana, sur'd
Weapon: Spirit Crystal
Armor: Enigma <= 80str
fc=124

With enigma, it saves 47 skill points over CoH (+20 str), Spirit seems like the best choice for eshield. The lack of both blocking and resists has me on edge though, even if I have a highass manapool, it could easily be drained by fb sorcs. The upside to double spirits is, I could prolly hit the 146fhr bp with little effort.

Shield: eth Spirit monarch
Helm: +2sorc, 20fc, 10fhr, 27str, 88 mana, sur'd
Weapon: Hoto
Armor: Enigma <= 80str
fc=130

Same thing for this, a little heavier on the resists, and 15% max mana increase. I initially chose spirit, because the one I'd be using has +111 mana which seemed to add more than 15% max, but I'm not sure on this. Haven't done any calculations, since Iuno the order it stacks in. I read Zharous's guide - It mentioned +mana based on clvl isnt multiplied by max mana, (thus nulling wizspike) but not really anything bout stacking. It'd just be something like [(char mana + item granted mana) x Max Mana%] x battle Orders?
and Charm mana is treated the same +mana from spirit would be?

The plusside of hoto, is the oak for increased life (which'll prolly be around 800 to 1k after BO), and distraction of GA/BS/FoH. Rep life too.

Rep Life huh?
Maybe

Shield: eth Spirit monarch
Helm: +2sorc, 20fc, 10fhr, 27str, 88 mana, Dol'd
Weapon: Hoto
Armor: CoH
fc=130

This variant loses a lot of mana though. 34 rep life - not too sure how effective it'D be. I like stacking rep for LLD sorcis, I remember 26+ was the number to aim for, but not too sure HLD duels, especially pubs and pking baal s / chaoses would benefit from it as much. It does have more resists, but no enigma str boost, prolly way less mana =(

Blocking ><

Shield: Chromatic Towershield of Deflecting, double Um'd, 30/20 68 res.
Although... A sanctuary tower would prolly be better -_-
Hafta look into that.

Helm: Griffs Shael'd
Weapon: Spirit Crystal
Armor: upped Viper
fc=115. oh snap.

problems happen when blocking comes up -.-
Revert to griffs for extra 5 fc, Upped Viper Instead of CoH, and we're short 2 fc. Grab a 35 spirit crystal (currents 34), short 1 fc. Use a fCr ring I guess, or get a 2/17 Ammy. The mana pool's gone way the hell down :sad:

Bleh.. Those're the options -.-
I like the first setup the most atm, but no blocking = zon fodder, if I cant force them into fhr/dodge lock fast enough =/
'n there's nothing worse than having a 400 hr char lose to a harmony zon...

I think your first setup is the best also. It is the all around strongest and I dont think you can let one char class detter you to completely change your build. Also with that much mana and if you happen to have bmanas I dont think you should have as manny problems with zons as you think with such a high fhr bp.

Yea, the 117 bp is teh suxxor. I had 115 for a long time. :rolleyes:

But anyways, is es the way to go with light sorcs? Of course if you want to specificly make one, then go ahead, but ive heard that the lightning sorc looses alot of damage potential when going es.

With an es build you technically dont need res, cos es is calculated before res kicks in. So it will still drain your mana like theres no tomorrow.
In a frozen orb pvp guide the guy had calculated how much you need in warmth for actually gaining mana/second while attacking/teleing. It was pretty handy. Maybe look into that...

Cant really help you more. Maybe vs zons use charged bolt. Its still physical damage they do, so tele like youve never teled before and put some charged bolt mats here and there. Or something.

Tested it a bit this morning, ended up going with Hoto + eTreks.

after Bo (staff cta, so spirit+6bo 1hand would yield better results, life/mana wise...), roughly 4k mana with double spirit + treks. 4.175k mana with double spirit and Silkweaves, 3.9k mana with hoto + treks. The resist loss isn't really worth ~200 extra mana - need the treks to compensate for the fhR loss. Plus the rep life and oak ftw =P

Has ~900 life with 3x mid life, 2x low life lite gcs, no 20/x life/mana yet... so mana loss shouldn't be too bad - esp with 5% more max (hoto over spirit + 10% silks) in the long run.

Resists are still low, but I fade >_>

Your resists wont be so great.

Without CoH that is.

Anyhow ill help you out with a good setup that I use, It works great and I can MF any boss in hell. You do need a merc to tank them and keep them in one spot though.

Helm: Shako (+health and +mana Lots)
Ammy: Mara's (Res and +2 skills!)
Weap: Eschuta's/Hoto for oak sage and res/occulus etc
Armor: If I were you I'd go with CoH.. huge res etc love it.
Shield: Spirit Monarch (nothing else even comes close to this shield)
Rings: 2 Soj's!
Belt: Arach's
Mittens: Magefist/Trangs for Cold res and better def
Boots: War Travs for MF!

Heck, throw a torch and an anni in there too! That setup listed above works flawlessly for me. I Destroy with it. Now Merc...

Weap: Eth Infinity (This is almost a must, with conviction aura and -lightres etc)
Armor: Eth Duress Archon is what I use
Helmet: Something with life steal/tal helm/Guillaum for CB and open woundZ

Heres what my damage is now (about)
Lightning: 7-43500
Chain Lightning: 7-14110
Mana Cost to Teleport: 1
Forget the others.

I don't play pvm :P
Without being forced to anyway~

eshield doesn't have resists, its just the 5% that leaks through (15% atm, not enough pts in it >_<) and when it crashes will be the problem. Tested it some more in duels, eshields generally holding up well, its just my life that isn't.

Once you get ES up to 95%, you won't have much life problems.

EG:
20K FireBall VS 80% ES and 75% res
=> 160 life loss per Ball (2000 mana loss per Ball)
20K FireBall VS 95% ES and 75% res
=> 40 life loss per Ball (2375 mana loss per Ball)

As you can see, you lose a lot less life (about 3/4th less) and your mana doesn't drop a lot faster (about 1/18th extra)
