I'd have to recommend going meterob. It is much cheaper than lighting/infinity. You can make a decent meteorb for almost nothing, lightning on the other hand pretty much required infinity which takes high runes to make.

OK that's wierd - how did I reply to your post and have it stamped and posted above yours? wierd

As far as getting some items, there is a donation box thread here - check that out.

Hello I am just returning after years of non-play and I am wondering which is the cheapest yet still effective Sorc MF Build? Most people say meteorb or that infinity light build. But are those cheap? Since I have no friends with free starter MF items. I wont have nothing to start off with. So which should I go and would anyone donate some low-end MF gear to help me get the ball rolling.

Blizzard. Max the synergies max the mastery. Very little nrg, all vita, and get some dext for max block rate. Find a nice BR shield and go meph hunting in nm until you are geared for hell. Whisper me at *Redzone1 if you need any more tips.

Meteorb and Blizzballer are both cheap builds, lightning/infinity is to expensive for me to even dream about :P
I have a blizzballer myself, and takes out most stuff. It's THE fastest build against hell meph i think.

I may be able to help you, both with some boosting and some halfdecent twinking stuff... *lord_baver

Light sorc with full out mf gear isn't going to scratch hell meph :p.

Blizzard works very well on hell Meph, even without it's synergies (so you can add a fire skill like fireball or meteor). MeteorOrb is more efficient for running more types of areas and imo is less mercenary dependent for tanking. In my experience meteor can take a few seconds longer than blizzard at the same levels without synergies to kill meph using the moat method, but not much longer.

If I was a brand new sorc without much resources for good gear I'd go with Meteor-Orb. Orb will cut through nightmare like butter. Meteor just in case you encounter immunities, and ultimately for meph runs (nm or hell I suppose).

Blizzard is absolutely the best if you are starting out naked.

I think I will give Meteorb a try does anyone know a good stat layout for someone with no gear what so ever? I have read the build guide and most say enough for this enough for that no energy rest vit but is it wise for someone who has no items to gear up with to follow this guideline? Some tips would be most appreciated.

Pure Blizzard worked pretty well for me when I restarted D2. Meph runs are worth the time.

Yes, that's the best guidelines I can give you. To do it perfectly, plan out your gear, figure out the STR requirement on your heaviest item, subtract whater ever you think you'll get from your equipment & charms. I know, easy to say, difficult to actually do.

Honastly, I messed up my first sorc pretty bad. I was planning on using a spirit monarch, I misread something and thought I needed 165 str instead of 156. That I didn't think I could ever afford an anni or torch, so I put 165 hard points into my str. When I finally her completely leveled up, got all my gear (I eventually bought an anni and torch) my str was over 200+. I can wear more gear than your average barb! The good news is tha even if you mess something up this bad, you'll still survive. Yes I could have saved 50 stat points and that means 100 more life, but after I leveled up enough, I'm not really missing the life. Well I am missing it, but I'm surviving.

If you don't know what you'd like to have for gear, plan for somewhere around tal set (84 str) - archon plate (103 str). About the only reason to go any higher is to wear a spirit monarch (156 str). Keep in mind that if you do eventually get an anni and a torch (I'd highly recommend the torch) those will get you 10-20 points to all stats (each).

Here's link where we got into a discussion on MF'ing. This might be useful, if you haven't read it. http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=477608

No energy is fine. Try to obtain uniques like Frostburn Gauntlets, Razorswitch Jo Staff (godly :p) to boost that mana. Insight runeword has a very low level requirement of 27 as well (Sol Rune), so look for a lvl 27 req or less polearm with 4 sockets. You won't need mana again once you slap this on an act 2 merc. Then as you level up you'll hopefully grow less dependent on Insight when you get closer to running Meph, etc.

I think that as you MF, the item you should aim towards getting would be a Shako.

But for now, get things that add to your resists, life and mana to make sure you survive. Blizzard + 1 pnt in static should do the job for most unique monsters.

I'm an old barb poster just returning to the game. I have some twink gear thanks to a friend who isn't playing right now, but there is no way I'm going to put together an Infinity.

My main goal here is to have fun being as this is a game. I want versatility for multiple areas and the ability to solo if need be (for my sorcs). So, here is what we've decided to do:

Me: Meteorb
Gf: CL/FO
Buddy: Avenger

The three of us should be able to MF anything and run hell Baal all day.

I'm pretty set on these builds (though if anyone knows of a better helper build for my buddy, feel free to make suggestions. I do have some decent pally stuff sitting around already, though)

I'm thinking partial tally set (armor (ptop), belt, ammy) with occy (facet if possible), shako (ptop), lidless (pdia), fcr/mf/res rings, chancies (frosties if mana is hurting - but I do have Insights). Does that sound good? Any suggestions for boots? War travs, maybe? I'm trying to MF. Mostly because it's fun to see cool things drop.

I think the most expensive part of this setup is the tally armor. I do have some other options that are decent for mf sorcs already, though, that I'll be using until I find the tally armor. I'm just curious if that is even a smart way to go with these builds. TIA

EDIT: Not trying to steal this thread, I just figured this was relevant to the topic.

Speaking from experience, it gets very old, very quickly to just play a merc (your buddy wont have much to do due to you two slaughtering anything thanks to his aura). Back when I was in a three player group, it was much more fun to have a double sorc (both dual as you posted) and a necro as support. The necro offers the damage boost in lower resist, great crowd control - Dim Vision/Confuse/Attract + Skeletons, and is just much more fun to play. ;)

PS: I'd say use full tals instead. (read "the truth about tals set" thread for explaination...) :)

Good call with the necro. I know this guy likes playing bone necros already. I was just thinking I'd like extra tank and I don't know if he's made an avenger before. I'll talk with him about it some.

You think full tals for the meteorb and the CL/FO? Most arguments concerning full tals have been for meteorb though it does stand to reason with the inherent light bonuses on the tals orb. I agree that the extra mf you get from occy/shako is minimal and the res loss is substantial. Especially considering the fact that tals mask and orb are much much cheaper to get than shako and occy.

I answered my own questions. The lightning bonus on tals set is the same as the fire bonus pretty much. I'll assume full tal set is the best option here. Of course all this is moot until I find a couple tals armors

My buddy says he wants to stick with the pally. That way he'll be up front and will be able to snatch our drops faster.

Be sure to practice your telekinesis and teleport/pickup skills extensively then! ;)
