View Full Version : Damage taken goes to mana on mercs?
I was looking through some random crap I have to try to put on my paladin's new merc until I get something decent, and I came across a naj's plate I had on one of my mules. Not too shabby for temporary merc armor given my other choices... and I was thinking that if the 40% damage goes to mana works on mercs, it may in fact be nice. That being said, does damage goes to mana actually work on mercenaries? My gut tells me it doesn't... since mercs don't really even possess/use mana in a conventional sense, but I just wanted to confirm this. Thanks for any response.
Atleast last time i checked they didnt use mana.

Mercs don't have mana. Whatever they do, if it costs mana, they are considered to have enough of it. That means +mana/energy equipment won't help them. You can't even feed mana potions to them, at least not with shift-["drink potion" button] IIRC.
I was aware that they do not use mana, like I said, so therefore I have a feeling that any items that have damage taken goes to mana don't work on mercs. If they did, then such items would be nice because the damage would go to merc's "unlimited" pool of "mana".

If the pool is unlimited, why would they need a source (damage) to fuel it?

"Dmg goes to mana" doesn't reduce damage suffered. It just gives you mana when you get hit.
Ooh, my bad. I thought it worked somewhat like how energy shield works. Haha. X)

Wow, I didn't know that.
The term "dmg goes to mana" is just misleading it seems.
Hmm.... I never really thought of it that way. Once I ddi suggest the idea of a sorc using ES, and having equipment that had "100% damage goes to mana"
It only works on the damage made on your life. And since an es sorc has only 5% of the damage taken to life, the mana gained cant compare to the mana lost when getting hit
Whew, glad I'm not the only person to get confused on this point.
