with an Infinity runeword equiped on your merc...
or with a wand with lower resistance charges (although these are somewhat slow and painful to use)

No, the merc has an aura which affects nearby monsters and lowers their resistances.

Keep in mind that -% resist items, such as facets, will only work ONCE immunities are broken by Conviction, Lower resist, etc.

Yes, however, more monsters have fire immunities that cannot be broken with Conviction alone; compared to lightning immunes.

yes, same principle - but you won't find as much -% enemy fire resistance.

Conviction works by lowereing the enemy resistance. An immune monster is simply a monster with % resist over 100% (they aren't capped at 75% like we are).

The issue is that conviction only works at 20% effectivness when breaking an immunity. Lets say your conviction does -100% Enemy resistance, if the monster starts out at 100% resist, after the 20% penalty is applied for breaking the immunity, the monster would be at 80% reisitance. Now if the monster started at 120% resist minus conviction (and 20% penalty) the monster would still be at 100% resist = immune.

There is plenty of gear to continue to lower the enemy's lighning resistance after you've borken his immunity. There just isn't as much items to lower fire resist as there is lightning resist.

ok thanx im going to use a facet armor and helm on my merc Don't.
See it as equiping a party member, auras will transfer their effects too the party members or monsters, but direct -%res on items like griffon and facets will only work for whoever has the equipment.

Infinity. The ones that can't be broken by infinity just let your merc kill.
