i have been playing diablo 2 LoD for a while now with no problem but recently i have a big problem

when i start the game it goes through the intro but when it gets to the menu screen the screen totally screws up

i tried wat it said at blizzard.com but to no good end

plz can sum1 help me????

Tried updating with patch downloaded from blizzard site?
Made any adjustments in hardware/software recently?
Tried to start the game in windowed mode?
Tried to skipintro?

don't bother with the -skiptobnet it's another funktion ... pretty clear what it does ...

How does the screen 'screw up'?
Are the colors distorted? Does it flash? Turn blue? Spin around? Close out?
Call you names?

the screen is badly distorted so that i cannot see could it be the refreshrate that is wrong when d2 starts? Tried to set the screen to 640x480 and 800x640 manually?

Change resolution (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/display_change_screen_resolution.mspx?mfr=true)
Change refreshrate (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;311403&sd=tech)

If you find yourself staring at a non readable screen just wait 15 seconds and it should atomatically change back to your old values unless you clicked accept by misstake.

if windowed mode does not fix it then try running the grafix test of diablo 2 (let cd autostart and click options in the d2 starter, then click "run video test", or find it in the start menu)

try my tip on the video test and lets see if it results in anything

You can't close out of the screen
You mean the diablo window?
Or the window with the path in it, that you changed by adding -w to?

Edit - Nevermind the second part I added, it was mentioned elsewhere

Did you try restarting your computer?

Before, when something popped up between movies when I was starting the game, it'd mess up whatever came after the movies. Restaring my PC always fixed it.

What were you doing before it started this?

nothing i just started my computer, logged in, and started trying to play.

p.s. i tryed restarting already

You must've done something before you turned your PC off earlier, things don't just appear by themselves :P

Did you turn it off correctly?
Try reinstalling diablo?

i have tried reinstalling the game twice now
and the only thing i was doing last time was playing diablo

Maybe some program in the background screwed your video/video card settings up, or something.

you can set the screen resolution to 800x600 and place the d2 window in the center, as for really switching between the two modes, I've only heard that mac users can do that.
