n00b at PVP, tips please?

Hi! I've mostly played Single Player, and for some time some ladder. I thought I'd test out PvP... Now I was wondering what type of char i should build to easy get a working pvp-er...
I am not trying to build the OMFG-LOLZOR most pwinsh pvpchar ever, i just want to test out pvp with some friends or such. I am not like the richest guy on eart, i can afford some quite nice items but doesn't got those stashes full of HR's.

So I was wondering, what type of char is fun to play in PvP? I'm mostly used to caster-types and ranged attackers, actually I've never played a barb over level ~25 or something XD

A fireball sorceress is cheap, effective, requires little skill, and are easy to master.

Okay, thanks so much :D But what kinds of skills do those focus on? I can see fireball and it's two syncs, but what more? Is some kind of cold armor worth the point? what support skills?
And sorc has the plus that i've got some twinking stuff like wall of the eyeless and vipermagi ready :P

Is Hydra viable in pvp? or Firewall? I remember firewall was useful for like aeons ago... but now?

EDIT: And what about stats and gear? What stats would I need and what should i look for in gear?
