View Full Version : Strange Character Builds for Dueling

I find myself bored with the same old characters for dueling in 1.11. Every pub game all I see are bvcs, bone necros, wind druids, yadda yadda all that everybodys already got one.

So I want to find a strange build that still has a chance in PvP. So far I've built the following in zonfire (and more that I probably missed) :

vengeance sorceress
aura sorc
bow sorc
bow pally
bear pally (this is best so far but I've seen them before)
bombasin
throwing weapons barb
summoner druid
poison dagger necromancer

I'm pretty sure I missed a bunch. So anyways, most of those sucked ***, and the ones that didn't were just mediocre after using very expensive gear. Anybody got any ideas?

note: I am most interested in things that use bows that aren't amazons.

throwing barb is KKTHX

Get urself CRUEL winged harpoons of quickness/evisceration (shop for them)
or eth gargoyales bite

And also get 2x eth lacerators.

Against Sorcs that like to tele close and hit you..use lacerators, same goes for melee. Reason being, they cast amp (33% CHANCE and ur using 2 at really quick rates) And axes have small radius.

Harpoons are still quick...glaives are still slow. winged harpoons add some really nice damage, AND have a pretty nice atleast 2 screen range, letting u hit defensive teleing sorcs/necros/windys.

Arreats/fortitude/highlords/gore riders/some nice gloves of ur choice/dungos=nice.

Vs CHarge smite/WW barbs i tend to switch to either enigma (but i hate resorting to that crap) or Leviathan.

Since all ur gear doesnt require much str, and dex adds damage AR and defense...just get base str (easy to do with anni+torch+arreat+charms etc) and around 125 ish base dex. Then get the rest vitality. I like to have around 175-200 dex with gear on. *u can use 2x raven it works very nicely on this char*. I do around 5k damage each with my lacterators and 7k with my cruel winged harpoon of evisc and cruel winged of quick (it equals out speed)

For PVM U MUST USE DEATHBITx2 +RAZOR TAIL gimmers on switch for phys immunes. U MUST USE RAZOR TAIL IN PVM pierce REALLY helps, 20 ias knockback gloves are nice for PVP and PVM

dragontail sin weilding infinity dream/dragon

I'll try the throwing barb again then. Do you use double throw?

The aura sorc seemed like a good idea because lightning mastery adds to dream damage. It ended up saying like 65k dmg on my character screen but doing practically nothing to anything with resists above 5.

Yeah, double throw might be the way to go if you're going for a pure throwing barb. Brings back memories of the 1.09 days...

I made a Hydra sorc that does surpising well in pvp. She runs a 18k firebolt and 5.1k hydra dmg. With firebolts lookin almost exactly like hydra fireballs, alll my oponents get thoughly confused as to where I'm at exactly if I keep moving and recasting hydra. I pretty much only have trouble w/ one hit killers like high dmg light sorc'es and chargers.

A mage pally looks interesting too, and u rarely see them in pubs. I had one come in a game the other night, and all you heard for the rest of the game from everyone that dueled him was "WTF".

Hydras, in combination with a fireball attack, is very powerful.

has anybody every tried an aura-sorc?
I had a friend with one, but it didn't PVP.

There are SO MANY weird characters you can PVP with.

Bow-hurri druids
Shaman druids
Bow assassins
Bowbarian
Bow necromancer with Low Res, Dream and poison charms

Basically, you can put widowmaker on anything and it'll kill.

Why not create a support character? Afterall, who likes doing the killing all the time?

Build yourself a:

Rogue Support

Max Warmth
Max Enchant
Max Telekenesis
Max ES
Rest of pts into Shiver or Chilling Armor

Your Equipment:

BeastZ - fana /cta switch
SS - block and dr/spirit switch
viper magi - res and 30fcr
2/20/x Sorc helm - skill and 20 fcr
2/20/x sorc ammy - skill and ~20fcr
2x soj - skill and mana
Arachs - skill and 20 fcr
Magefist - skill, mana, and 20 fcr
Sandstormtreks - fhr and stats

Load up on fire gcs, torch, anni. res scs.

Merc Equipment:

hoj bow (meets last fpa with fana from beast)
fort armor or +20/-20 armor
ias helm

You tele, your merc does the killing with enchant.

i have a plague zon, it's very competitive with top builds... add a cta bow on switch and it workss very nicely! (make sure to use enigma, its much better than bramble in my experience)...

bowasins do pretty well also with traps/mb/venom...

I've seen videos of a jack-of-all-trades sin owning on east- she was kick/ww/trap/bow I believe

I love my Fire Druid. It's cheap to make and quite effective, when I use a full charmed inventury my Fissure hits 6k and my 1-point Armageddon hits 9k. It can kill ANY whirlwinder and most other melee.

Fire Faceted Ravenlore
Maras
Enigma
HOTO + 20/20 Fire Monarch/CTA + Spirit
2x SOJ
Upped Magefists
Arachnids
Triresist Boots

Torch
Anni
9x Elemental GC (I'm using 7 because I also MF with him)

20 Firestorm
20 Volcano
20 Fissure
20 Molten Boulder
1 Armegeddon
1 Oak Sage
1 Grizzly Bear
Pre reqs.

Prebuffed I can hit 3k life. I can own most werebears, and non-teleing whirlwinders, zeolets and smiters consitantly, but if they teleport it become a little more difficult. Then I lay fissure-fields around me, and teleport as they do, playing a cat-and-mouse game untill Fissure/Armageddon kills them.

Too bad they probably didn't include their keyboard in the video. Would have been fun to see his fingers flying to do all those different skills. Unless he's lame and uses mouse wheel

How you beat sorc and trapers?

havent seen many of these but bowa pallys. they get the full benefit of higher lvl fanatacism. equip a widow, fort, and some ias gear and your good to go. plus you have charge to get away fast :).i could see a good one being much more effective than a normal bowazon.

also saw another build. quite costly but interesting. sorc with +cold dmg gear and high lvl cold shield. kinda like thorns but much more effective. she could kill most anything if they hit her 3 times.

Cast Fissure from far away, then teleport on them.

That's pretty much all you can do.

EDIT: Activate the traps on some Wolves.

OMG... that Necro with mage/fire golem/infinity/lower resist/poison nova is the best idea I've ever seen lol..

Right now I'm currently working on a Were-Sorc... I asked my friends what the strangest build to make was... and for some reason I got that one. I wish I had that Necro idea before..

Equip for Were-Sorc
Beast Zerker
CoH
Stormshield w/ -15req jewel
Shako
Highlords
Raven
Gores
LoH
Arachs

Bowa pallys is absolute ownage, they are not viable, I just duel one with my ww sin. The main problem to comparing to zone is that they dont have dodge, they dont have shield, they have low defense == fast death. The guy was switching to smith when in melee range, what is quite good tactic I think, but it didnot work on me.

about sorc with high shiver armor I also was thinking, but in my opinion it will not be enough effective.

:How about a Dtail sin? I've build one in SP and she's doing quite well. Ofcourse she's underpowered, but only because she has to charge up

Skills
20 Tiger Strike
20 Dragon Tail
20 Claw Mastery (optional.. you can probably be faster in charging up with some sort of phase blade, but when using a claw this will add the necesarry AR)
1 prereq's
1-20 dragon flight
and some other skills like mindblast and maybe some fire WoF to stunlock..

Nothing too shabby about having 30K minimum dmg.

Sint, what nub would be standing around letting you get charges off them?
I can only think of Mikle when he lags badly ...

I'm still curious on who that barb was?

Actually with AR over 20k and about 6 fpa you could charge and kick in about a second or two, three... in SP dueling that is easy enough, in BNet dueling you'd need skill to pull it off.

Kicking is range 4 though so that might help.

That an interesting fact, I aways believed that it was dependant on the weapon.

I doubt that he is right and I doubt it is weapon dependant. I think the range is 1 like for claws and thats all. Otherwise I could easily beat ww barbs by just standing in side and kicking them to death

You can charge off people standing near the exit of town =d

I always fancied making a werebear that could teleport and use decrepify with a spellsteel bearded axe. Not very damaging but clever nonetheless. Cast decrepify, teleport behind you and cast shockwave.

You can use the passion runeword to make a zealot or avenger from any character.

How about a pure taunt barbarian? Huunnnhhh!

I have made many weird builds and this must be the weirdest of all. You will actually see your ama shapeshift to a druid when she dodges/evades/avoids in bearform.
