Why can I no whisper / msg???

I don't know what I am doing wrong, but I seem to be unable to message while on bnet.
I am doing it the following way:

/m *<accountname> "message"

There are two possible replies I get from the system:
1, "The user is not logged on" - it is clear and ok, but:
2, "You cannot whisper to that user" - now this doesn't make any sense to me.
Apparently other users have the same message when trying to message me.

Is there anyone who knows what I am doing wrong here????

You'll commonly get this message error if the target of your message is sitting in the "lobby" area (to which I'm referring to the area between the time you select a character, and the time when you press the "Enter Chat" button).

Likewise, if the target is changing characters, this message error will also happen.

AFAIK, and maybe I'm missing some info here, but you can only message a person, if:

-They are online (duh, hehe)
-They are on the same realm as you
-They are in a channel, OR they are in a game


If you use /f m, you can still get the message across to them, even if they're in the lobby area.

when I want to whisper to a particular person the command I use is /w *<account name> rather then /m *<account name>/w is short for /whisper. /m is short for /message. Both commands work the same way.
