I just created a Necromancer, twice, in single-player and tried setting Players 8 only to get normal experience for any monsters I killed. The game responded with my character saying it was set to 8, but checking afterward with /players it says it's back to 1. I recently played an Amazon during a cable outage and had no problems getting her to CLvl13 by Stoney Field with the standard practice.

Anyone ever have this problem, hear about it before or am I missing something obvious?

/players sets it back to 1. You have to use the message log if you used the command in the current game, or just set it again to be sure it's at the amount you want.

also the monsters nearby when you change players remain at the /players setting they was at when you first spotted them. At least it seems so to me.

That doesn't seem right, RTB. A command which takes arguments should query instead of assume the lowest possible argument. /FPS doesn't take arguments, but /FRIENDS (/F) does and works as a query.

As for monster already activated being treated at previously set difficulties, I've never seen it work that way, but I'll check both of these next time I play single-player. Thanks.

Thanks. The players command just simulates what would happen if a player (or players) joined your game right then. Only new monsters are affected. If old monsters were affected, then anytime you encountered a hard boss, you could set the game to players 1, and then change it to players 8 right before they died. That would be pretty cheap. This part of the command has always worked as it currently does.
