View Full Version : LR for Poisonmancer: worth investing?

Hey all. I've noticed plenty of interest in Poisonmancers recently. Very nice development there. I've read Gvandale's guide many times over, and I have to say that it has worked magically for me. I'm at a point in my career where I've almost maxed the last synergy.

I'm pretty happy with my skellie performance. I know that most people generally advise putting remaining skill points into SM, but would it be so terrible to put them into Lower Resist instead? I understand that diminishing returns make the percentages horrible for it at higher levels, but I'm currently not in possession of either facets or even a Death's Web (currently wearing full Trang's and a +3 PB wand, praying fervently for at least Blackbog's Sharp to drop). And since I'm playing SP, it doesn't look like I'll come too close to getting a DW any time soon (we trade, but runes aren't allowed, and I just started playing again a couple of weeks ago, hence little wealth).

So am I going to regret putting more than 1 point into LR? Shall I just dump my remaining points into Mastery instead? I'm already pretty sure more LR is a bad idea, but I feel the need to hear it from someone else before I'm sold, for some reason

The more into skeleton mastery, the stronger your army is & the more punishment they'll be able to take in hell mode to keep your necro nice & safe. Death's Web or poison facets are not required for a good poisonmancer. They're very nice, but by no means a "have to have" kinda items. I'd rather know i'm well protected than to have things fall apartrather quickly in a bad spot. Especially if you play hardcore.

As leddan said, but also:

Don't invest more than 1pt into lower resist. Even if you don't have the gear now, you may regret it later. It's not like you can make a new lvl 80 character in a day in single player =) These few % won't be noticible and the main use - breaking immunities - won't even benefit.

Righto. Thanks, you guys. And Monte Cristo, thank you for pointing that out. I honestly can't get it through my thick skull that I no longer have access to Hammerdins and Meteorbs who will happily decimate Baal's lackeys for me, back when I BNetted and was a Summoner. Now I bow to the almighty power of players8, which I shall conquer. In Hell. Ah, eventually. Thanks again :)
