View Full Version : Diablo Story/History
I'm very sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I've been wondering for one or two years now (have been too lazy to check) where exactly I can find the story or history of Diablo. I know the basics, and have read the Ex Libris Horadrim from the book, but is there any in-depth story for Diablo anywhere online?
Thanks for the help.

Hrm...if you're looking for the official Blizzard history of the Diablo series, then I think that, other than the two games, the Lord of Destruction expansion pack (but NOT Hellfire) and the associated manuals, Blizzard's web site would be a good bet. In particular, I'd suggest the Arreat Summit: www.battle.net/diablo2exp
That has mostly rehashes of what's in the manuals, but there's some new stuff there too. There are also Diablo-based novels commissioned by Blizzard, but they aren't online (at least not for free) and don't follow the game storyline, as far as I know. I've never read them myself, but I haven't heard particularly good things about Blizzard's game-based books in general.
There isn't anything official that's more in-depth, as far as I know. Unofficial stories written by non-Blizzard folk abound, and some are represented here, though they tend not to run through the complete story in general; authors have often stopped writing after a while.
You can find almost all of it here on this site. Look at www.diabloii.net and you should be able to see it on the left column.

Actually - I've read a couple of the Diablo books, and I have to say, they were excellent reads. They have precious little to do with the diablo storyline, aside from being set in Sanctuary - and only one of the two I read had characters that came close to characters you would see in the game. Legacy of Blood was the one I read first, and it was an extremely fascinating read - it even takes you inside of the Arcane Sanctuary, though it seems to appear vastly different in the book than it does in the game. The Black Road was the other I read, and I have to say, it's one of few books that I read twice within a one month period. An excellent, excellent story. Both contained wonderful descriptions, and filled out the world of Sanctuary quite nicely.
None of the books seem to have any connection to each other, by the way. The two stories I read were completely and totally separate. That means you can pick up any one you'd like, without worrying about which you've missed... a bonus to the casual reader, as you can pick up the one that interests you the most, but to those like myself, it lacks the draw of a full, several-book-long storyline.
You can see excerpts from the books here (http://www.ultimategamers.com/books/books.html) - however, it's worth noting that the one from The Black Road is actually one of the less impressive scenes in the book. Which is saying quite a bit.
the kingdom of shadow is m second favorite, it is so descriptive and has a very ingenius plot. the books are amazing as far as i can tell.
