US East Non Ladder:

Okay I have all the appropriate runes, but I see some Nigmas with very high def and some with 92%MF how is that? What type of body do I need to make a greart Nigama? Especially one with a higher MF.

Not to be nasty or anything, but I would highly recommend heading over to Arreat Summit's runeword list before you make anything... If you don't know what the RW does...

92%MF = character level was 92... MF based on character level...
High defense = it provides a + to defense range, logically the higher defense armor you put it in - results in higher defense...

the higher def could also have been a "glitched" armor: if you use the socket cube recipe on an ethereal item, the ethereal bonus is calculated twice (or does it only work with armors?)

The Areat Summit states explicitly if a runeword is ladder-only.

They've seperated the RWs in the 1.10 section. The bottom 1/2 of the page is Ladder only whereas the top half is all realms. Enigma is all realms, but when making another runeword just verify that it doesn't say Ladder-only.

So in short if it's in the 1.10 Runeword Section you can make it on NL. If it is after the point:

The following Rune Words will only work on the Battle.net Realms for Ladder Characters only. They will not work for single or open characters or non-ladder characters

And says Ladder RWs in the Header, you can't make them on NL

For a Mercenary? And yes, I've seen people using ethereal Enigmas on their mercs. My friend, who quit quite a time ago, used I think Insight, Dream and Ethereal Enigma on his Prayer Mercenary.

Except weapons. Weapons are not subject to the eth socket bug.

In any event, "high defense" doesn't mean it was eth. Considering he doesn't know anything about RWs and that he didn't even read what it says on the Arreat Summit, it's safe to assume he would consider "high defense" what we might not.

Also, I'm pretty sure there is no such RW as "Nigma". -.- Unless you're talking about IthBer armors.

People call it nigma for short all the time, no need to be a stickler about it.

Well the fact of the matter is that Enigma has a variation in the plus defense you can get...it can be +750 to +775. It's this flat "plus defense" that allows ppl to build in low strength req armor like Mage Plates or even Breast Plates (u still get over 1k def w/ a Mage Plate version).
Another factor that would come into play is what base armor you chose. A Superior Archon Plate, for instance, with 15% enhanced defense would be much higher defense (esp. w/ a high +def, i.e., +775) than a 3os plain vanilla 460 def AP. I use AP example b/c that is probably the most popular and desirable Enigma. What he may have seen b4 is BP 'nigmas or MP nigmas or those simply made in low base def AP's or the like. For instance a perfect sup BP nigma would have ~853 defense, whereas a perfect sup AP nigma would be in the neighborhood of 1377 defense or thereabout.

Wasn't there also a period of time in early 1.10 when you could zod an eth armor (ebugged armor), wipe the socket, and it would keep the indestructible mod?

I didn't play 1.10 at all so i'm just going by what i've read, but if you saw a higher def eth enigma, it might have been from then...
