I am thinking of replacing my Ummed Hoz for a Phoenix runeword shld. For faster killing speed in 8 player games, I like the %ED and + to max resists. I can replace the resists by using a 40+ resist all sacred targe/rondache as the base and using some RA charms. I should hopefully still reach max block with max holy shield as my dex is 167 w/o the Hoz.
Has anyone done this? How did it work? Am I missing something other than the high cost?

Phoenix has a very very low blocking rate and thus is not highly recommended. The silly CTC spells occur far more than the CTC lifetap of draculs grasp thus it might even kill you if the lifetap does not trigger.
also the CTC spells of phoenix is timered and the cool down will force you to pause between attacks for less than a second but that is not nice either.

Well I'm planning on making a phoenix soon (looking for a 45% all res base sacred). Nothing wrong with that huge damage bonus. Ctc firestorm doesn't cancell life tap cause it isn't a curse.
If you want to have nice damage, then Phoenix is the shield for you. However, I like my zealots to have block, so yeah....up to you.

Doesn't phoenix only have like a 15%ed? You'll be losing out on aloooot of defense. Well actually if you wanted defense you would have gone with exile in the first place haha. I still think defense and block is important, and phoenix just doesn't cut it for me.

We are talking about ~160 dex for max block above level 90,nothing extreme,a second raven can fix that. Redemption takes care of leech,and the damage is insane,beats fortitude even.
Firestorm is timered and it may affect your attack speed, as bladewind said.
Not a viable option if you ask me.

The kicker is that CTC firestorm is a whopping 40% ! Imagine pausing about once out of every 2 attacks. I find it extremely annoying especially if you are smiting against ubers and such.

last season I used a phoenix and its really good, the ctc firestorm wont be much worse than the firestorm from torch and also the redemption aura saves your *** when ur figting skeles and have no lifetap...

The firestorm on phoenix is different to that of the torch. The one on Phoenix is based on the druid skill I believe.

It is different but mid-zeal there shouldn't be any problem,zeal can't be interrupted anyway.
