So I found a decent bone wand with +3 to poison and bone skills, a gc with +1 to poison and bone skills as well. All sorts of other necro irianted items, so I figure, why not start a necro.

Question is, what build is a fun, yet viable build who can take on hell.

As you can tell I am leaning towards poison and bone skills, but is the build viable in hell? Any suggestion on what type of build, and a vague outline of what gear / skills I need would be helpful.

I want to hear from experienced necro players what works and what doesn't.

I do NOT want to be reffered to the sticky guides, if I did, I wouldn't have asked here, mmmkay?

I don't ask much, just a general "Max this, or go this hybrid route" etc.

Ok with all that said, I thank for any input.

I had fun with a bonemancer but he kind of stalled once he hit Act 5 NM, I didn't have strong enough bone walls. I haven't read a guice but I'm sure there are some Necro guides stickied on the main of the Nec forum.

Personally I like the bone/summon hybrid or a pure boner. It allows you to command a grand army, and do something other than keep monsters cursed and blow up corpses (which is fun, tho) :)

y i really love my skelleton army, but feel like i have wasted points with raise mage and ce, so im thinking of making a hybrid psn nova/summoner. the build is quite easy :

20 psn nova
20 psn explosion
20 psn dagger
20 raise skelleton
1 lower resist ( main curse)
1 clay golem + golem mastery
rest in skeleton mastery

items :
3 part trang oul combo(gloves+belt+shield) for good + psn dmg
helm: shako/+skill helm
amulet: maras/skill amu
weapon: deaths web if u can afford/ or staff with some +skills
armor:bramble or enigma/ viper if u cant afford
boots: waterwalk or marrowwalk
sojs or fcr res rings

So what your saying is....

You've read all the guides thats say they've played their builds through hell effectively, and are still wondering if the builds are effective in hell, right? or are you just unwilling to take the time to read them?

Just getting a feel for where your at...no offense...
but the builds stickied here do go into the effectiveness of their builds in various stages. Both the poisonmancer and boney are effective but harder to play than a summon hybrid or pure summoner at the higher stages. They require more practice to utilize their skills.

If your just starting out i would recommend a hybrid to take advantage of your new items. Blues poison/summon is a good one, the one im using right now is bone/summon. Hes fun to play

the problem is both require use of skills that need practice..they give you alot of tips in the guides here that are stickied
note my trend here...the guides do come in handy...dont neglect them especially for the builds that are more challanging (which most bone/poison are)

I've got a poison/summon hybrid who just hell Meph last night. I highly recommend it as an effective build for hell. By the end, you should get as close as you can to maxing raise skelly, skelly mastery, and the three poison skills with a few points for the usual suspects (gumby, gumby mastery, summon resist, and prereq curses up to LR.

The way I see it, there are two ways to go about a poison/summon hybrid. Either use your items to increase the killing power of the skellies, or use them as a meat wall while your heavily favored poison kills everything. Your choice will really determine the items you use. Summon tree charms vs. pnb charms, AoKL vs. death's web, use trang's or not. These will determine how your enemies will die.

I personally started, untwinked, by relying heavily on my skellies for the killing power. With a might merc, and decrepify, they were able to keep me safe and effectively kill bosses for me. Now that I'm getting deep into hell, I've been working on my poison, but still being untwinked, my nova is relatively weak (a little less than 1.8k average per nova). If I am able to get some of the above mentioned poison aids, then I expect that my damage will be able to do more than stop monster regen and I'll be able to kill more than fallen and other low HP enemies. Of course, I am still currently using decrep and amp damage as my main curses, rather than LR, until I obtain some better gear.

Summary: summon hybrids good, safe, effective builds. If you want more danger and excitement, go daggermancer.

Only you can determine what is fun.

Lo and behold, this is exactly the thing the guides were written for. It is in the stickies that you can find your answer. Try asking a more specific question if you don't like this answer.
