Greetings all.

I haven't played Diablo for years, since 1.04 or 1.06; the patch that made the game noticeably tougher.. Anyway, it's been a long time, and I can't find my LoD expansion disc, and will likely be buying it again.

I gather there have been quite a few changes via patches, but I'm curious about what kind of characters are fun and successful lately.

In the past I generally played fighters, and especially remember the good times I had with my whirlwind barbarian..

This time around I think I will create a caster-type, and would welcome any feedback regarding class, elemental type, and/or equipment suggestions as I get back into the Diablo 2 universe.

Also, any other comments, whether they be able recent changes to the game, or pretty much anything else would be apprecaited. It's been a very long time, and after talking to a friend, we decided we are going to start playing together.

As an aside.. When I try to connect to Battle.net after updating to the newest patch, I get an error that I am unable to connect to the network, despite me being able to connect to download the patch... I don't want to turn this into a technical support thread, but am intrigued by what might cause this issue.

Thanks and maybe I'll be playing in a game with some of you in the future!

 Welcome back!

I will leave the techy answers to people who have been around longer than me but I have enjoyed:

Fishymancer (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=349093)

Hi there,

The fishymancer is a cheap way to build a caster. I've took mine from lvl1 to 76 in a week w/o playing too much and 'fairly' untwinked.

The frozen orb sorc seems popular but I have never gone down that route. The hammerdin is still a VERY popular build but i do prefer a melee bild such as a fanatic zealot or W/W barb.

Get in to 8player games to lvl quick. It also gives more chance of decent drops.

Good Luck

Thanks for the replies..

I started a sorceress last night.. Got her to level 20, and stupidly beat Diablo while on an exp run.

I am not sure what type of sorc I want to do, and haven't spent any points, so she will be shelved for now.

I started up a Barbarian, and am going to make him a 2 handed Whirlwind barb.. I always seem to come back to the melee characters, despite me playing one as a main character years ago.

Currently at level 15, on USEast, non-Expansion. I've got a few decent items, and am trying to focus on at least getting Cathan rings, and other leech gear. If anyone is playing USEast and is looking for a game, let me know sometime. My username is Jimellow there as well.

non-Expansion..

I only play LoD due to the runes and MUCH MUCH better monster AI. Strongly suggest doing that. Act 5 is better than the rest of the game. Some of the monsters in there rock and have much better skills such as WW on knights and so many curses. The Throne of destruction is easily thye hardest part due to the 5 super uniques in a row. A shaman, a unravaler, a council
member and a super hard c^%£ called Lister. well worth the money.....
