View Full Version : Reduce poison length

If I had, for example, 4 items with reduce poison length by 25%, and I was hit, for example, by a poison attack doing 1k dmg over 10 seconds, would it add up like:

1: duration = 10 * (100 - (25 + 25 + 25 + 25)) = 0 seconds?

or

2: duration = 10 * .75 * .75 * .75 * .75 = 3.16 seconds?

Poison Length reduction stacks, up to a max of 75%. So you can never get 100% poison reduction. Like resistances, it also suffers a penalty for the difficulties levels, so the total poison length reduction you'll need to reach max on each difficulty would be:

Normal: 75%
Nightmare: 115%
Hell: 175%

Note that the bonus applied by skills such as Cleaning is the same property, and will simply stack with any item-based poison length reduction items that you have.

The total value you have for poison length reduction will decrease the duration of the poison itself. So, if you were hit with a poison that had a duration of 10 seconds, and you have 75% poison length reduction, it would last for about 2.5 seconds (25%). This also means that if you do not have poison length reduction on NM or Hell, the poison will last longer.

Thanks Orphan. 1 more thing... I'm 99% sure there aren't any, but are there any posion absorb items? I guess the best way to combat it would be a healing aura or alot of regenerate health equipment.

The reason I ask about all this is that I was thinking about trying to create a mostly unkillable pvp char. I realize this is just about impossible, but atleast make him as resistant to death as possible w/ changing equipment.

For example,

against a cold sorc: guardian angel, snowclash, 2x ravenfrost -- almost any sorc would heal you

against a light sorc: guardian angel, tgods, 2x wisp projectors -- almost any sorc would do well under 100 dmg

against a fire sorc: guardian angel, nokozan relic, 2x dwarfstars -- almost any sorc would do under 100 dmg

...

it goes on an on.

Oh, 2 more questions...
1.
Items that have "Magic damage reduced by xx". Does that include elemental damage, or only pure magic, like hammers or bone spear?

2.
I guess I never did see the order of damage taken...

I always assumed the order of operations was: pvp mod, resistances, % absorb, # absorb... but I just realized I'm probably wrong. What is the order of operations?

There used to be poison absorb, on an item who's name now eludes me, but that was pre-1.10. Now, there isn't any items that grant that property.

"Magic Damage Reduced by xx" reduces the damage of fire, cold, lightning and magic (bone spear, etc) attacks.

The damage order at the moment is basically:

1) PvP modifier
2) Bone Armor/Cyclone Armor/Energy Shield
3) -damage items (eg damage reduced by xx or magic damage reduced by xx)
4) Resistances (including physical resistances)
5) Absorb %
6) Absorb #

Awesome I was almost exactly right on with the order of damage.

So, in pvp, a character (especially a paladin) could be pretty much immune to any attack a sorc can dish out, with the right equipment, and also nearly immune to a poison necro.

I looked into it a little more...
Cold Sorc:
guardian angel, snowclash, 2x ravenfrost, blackoak shield
95% res, 40% cold absorb, ~+68 cold absorb

Fire Sorc:
guardian angel, nokozan relic, 2x dwarfstars, steel shade, dragonscale
95% res, 40-50% fire absorb, +20-26 fire absorb

Light Sorc:
guardian angel, tgods, 2x wisp projectors, blackhorn's face
95% res, 20-40% light absorb, +40 light absorb

Poison Necro:
Venom ward, Snakecord, venomgrip, cleansing aura
95% res, Poison Length Reduced by 75% (in hell also), healing

But you also need to stack quite a bit of cold resistances, since otherwise your cold resistance, being -100%, will double the cold sorcs' dmg.

Fire Sorc:
guardian angel, nokozan relic, 2x dwarfstars, steel shade, dragonscale
95% res, 40-50% fire absorb, +20-26 fire absorb

Light Sorc:

I seriously suggest not to use such gear just to "negate" a build, since it will result in some other build killing you in a few hits in public games, and I doubt you're making a negating character for private duels. Also, you will have _very_ hard time catching any of those builds without teleport. For changes that allow teleport, it's suggest:

Fire: Nokozan+Hotspur
Cold: 2x Ravenfrosts, Snowclash
Lightning: TGod's, a wisp or two
Poison: Death's set gloves and Andariel's Face 'Gul'

But even so, most of these items are _not_ needed if you know how to play. E.g. my barb uses hotspur 1v1 versus fb'ers, 2x ravens versus cold sorcs, no gear changed versus lightning sorcs (except maybe fcr rings), and antidotes versus poison necro/amazons.

Oh, and to have an effective 75% PLR, remember to get 175% PLR total in Hell, even though, this is very much _not_ needed with Cleansing and high-ish PR.

Fire Sorc:
guardian angel, nokozan relic, 2x dwarfstars, steel shade, dragonscale
95% res, 40-50% fire absorb, +20-26 fire absorb

Also remember that absorb % is capped at 40%, so with 2 dwarfs and a low dragonscale, you'll still be maxed fire absorb%.

The Rising Sun
Amulet

Required Level: 65

+2 To Fire Skills
2% Chance To Cast Level 13-19 Meteor When Struck (varies)
+ (0.75 Per Character Level) 0-74 Fire Absorb (Based On Character Level)
Adds 24-48 Fire Damage
Replenish Life +10
+4 To Light Radius
(Only Spawns In Patch 1.10 or later)

That's also a nice absorb item, if you have GA and waterwalks to get 95 res fire.

But absorb items are so lame...
He won't kill you
But you won't ever kill him

So this is just for fun...

btw I think Lidless Wall had psn absorb in early patches...

Yea this is just for fun.

Orphan, you are just full of statistics. I didn't know absorb % was capped at 40. Do you know a place with more of such statistics? I've already seen the Facts & Formulae Archive but that's old and doesn't have as much as it could.

I was thinking this char could be a charger...
might+charge on attack, defiance vs melee, cleansing or salvation vs spell casters, and vigor in between.

btw... in 1.08 lidless has +0.5 psn absorb/lvl

Against melee my goal would be to not get hit. I'd be going for highest defence rating possible, max block, and 50 damage reduction if I could get it in without messing up my defence too much. Maybe even throw in a bramble on a bugged eth armor (when durability gets low I can always find a use for it on a merc). I also gotta find an item with amp damage charges.

Your best bet would probably be to hang around this forum for abit. :wink3:

I might start a new facts and stastics page. I'll probably make a post here with a list of things that should be in it so people can add to it. I guess next time I get some free time I'll start it.
