Hello all,
I have not played D2 since 1.09 was new. I tried updating the other day, and I didn't really like it. I play single player usually, and so, I took my lvl 79 Barb around hell and I learned very quickly that I couldn't do much. So, I've been looking around on different sites, and I see that there was a major overhaul. Anyways, on to the questions...
1. Do runewords now work in Single Player?
2. Is there a legitimate Barb build that can hang in hell?
3. What are some of the new popular builds on other chars?
4. Did they nerf the Amazon?
Thanks in advance for the help...

1. Not all work. If you are playing 1.10, everything works except for the 23 ladder only runewords and Duress, Prudence, Wind, and Splendor. In 1.11, everything but the 23 ladder only runewords work.
Superdave seemed to get the rest of them. Here are a couple of links you might find helpful:
The 1.10 FAQ for SP (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=126761) to catch up on the differences between 1.09 and 1.10.
The 1.11 SP Changes Guide. (http://forums.diabloii.net/showpost.php?p=4341054&postcount=574) Not much changed from 1.10 to 1.11, but this covers it. It also has information on a mod that can be used to add the ladder only runewords to SP.
When you look up guides, 1.10 guides should work fine in 1.11 unless they abuse the synergy bug. Such guides are usually pretty good about letting you know they use that bug up front, and there are only a couple of more off the beat builds that it applies to anyhow.
You might want to look up Nightfish's Beserker guide if you are looking for a viable Barb build. Standard cookie cutter builds would include Meteorb Sorcs, Summoning Necros (Fishymancers), and Hammerdins.

what ^she^ said...i read the question as...."do runewords work in sp"....not "what runewords work in sp".
4. Did they nerf the Amazon?
What is to nerf? I couldn't find something relevant in the dictionaries.

Check the toy stores.
Nerf toys are soft foam toys.
To nerf means to make not as deadly. (basically)
Think of a real arrow then think of a nerf arrow.

So before the patch Amazon was deadlier, maybe too powerful for decent gameplay? Is that so?

That would be what's implied by "nerfing the amazon" but I can't confirm that's what was done.
Although they may be talking about making guided arrow non-peircing.
It would hit the monster, go through, and come around for another hit. I read you could have 8 or 9 guided arrows swarming a monster. If you had enough to pierce that is.
Keep in mind that Single Players don't have to play the most recent patch. If you prefer the 1.09 version, you can easily switch to it. Or 1.07 for some rack running. There was even a recent thread in the Single Player Forum authored by someone who was going all the way back to version 1.00, to use a WW Barb with a massive two-handed pointy stick, back in the day when WW wasn't affected by weapon speed.
Take a search in the SPF for a version switcher - shouldn't be too hard to find.
Or, if you want to use the most recent runewords, there's a runeword mod available and widely accepted. Not everyone in the SPF uses it, but if you disclose your use when multiplaying or trading, you'll be fine.

In 1.09, the amazon was god. Lightning javazons and nova sorces were the best builds in the game and they dominated cow level after cow level, and this was pre-infinity, too. They were to the game what hammerdins are now. Nerf one build and some other confection arises to take its place. It's the best and worst thing about the game, the infinite possibilities.
