I have just killed the countess on hell for the first time on my own and she dropped an EL. I thought that it would be higher, much higher than that. Have I been scammed by some1 i was partying with? Coz i know who they are.......

Also, found a blue crst orb with +2 skill + 1meteor and +28life and rep life 5. Is this worth anything - i've never played a sorc B4 so some advice would be great

Unfortunatly for you, Hell countess can indeed only drop an El rune, if the game rolls that low. The odds of getting a relatively high rune (such as Lem+) would be pretty low.

As for the orb, you won't find a buyer for it. If you hope to sell a magical or rare orb, it'll need to compete with The Oculus (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/normal/usorceress.shtml) before most people will consider it.

It can't even compare to spirit, and spirit is so easy to make.

Actually, there will be a buyer, and that's Charsi.

If you plan to run countess, here is small tips that I recommend:

1. Get 2-3 friends in the game, and preferably (if possible) someone who has not done the quest makes the game.

2. Your 2-3 friends can go killing monsters or to run Diablo or something like that, while you head down to the Tower. Being in party is not recommended so we do not lose this guy´s quest. Only possible to get BO and some other stuff like that you can do quick party but then leave.

3. Kill Countess as normal. Because of the more players in game, she has higher chance to drop some decent runes and the stash also opens and you can get some gold and even some runes there.

My brother once got Um from countess herself by using this and the chest dropped him a shael among the gold.

Bad idea. Do countess alone, more rune drops that way.

This is untrue.

Even for the special rune drop, El is the rune with the highest drop chance, followed by Eld etc.

The rune distribution for the Countess isn't any different than for other monsters. In fact the distribution is the same for all monsters when just considering the runes they can drop. It's the chance to drop a rune at all which varies and it's 100% with the special rune drop from the Countess.

BTW, the Countess can drop runes from her normal drops as well. These are the drops from which runes higher than Ist can be produced, though most will be low runes as well.

AFAIK it's possible that the Countess drops no rune at all. That can happen e.g. when the maximum of 6 drops has already occurred with regular drops (it might be the case that her maximum number of normal drops is 5, however) or when you are very unlucky and get a "no drop" event on the first special rune drop, but the chance is very low. It never happened to me IIRC.

The countess's item drop does indeed have a max of 5 drops, out of her total 6 potential drop rolls.

As for her rune drop, even if she has dropped 5 items from her item drop, she'll still roll the rune drop 3 times, unless a rune is selected. So if the first rune drop roll in this case were to be a "no drop", the second rune drop chance would still be rolled, as will the third if a "no drop" is selected again.

No rune drop from countess happened to me several times even though I don't run her much.
In solo game, it's a chance 1:3 from each countess rune drop that no rune will drop, which seems quite high...
EDIT: Actually it's 1:4 (my bad)
