Hi guys, I tried to find some info on an Infinity lightning sorc. I saw the guide for Infinity and nova and a proposition for Infinity and charged bolt, but is Infinity viable/very strong for a CL sorceress? CL tickles my fancy, but I'm concerned about the ability of a pure lightning sorceress to tackle Hell difficulty areas unaided. I've seen guides advocating Eschuta's instead of Infinity, but from what I've seen Infinity seems the stronger choice.

Simply put: can/does Infinity break lightning immune on monsters? Even if immunities can be broken, is a CL sorceress still able to take previously immune monsters down fairly quickly using Infinity?

I've wanted to make a pure sorc that can kill most anything (I understand that some specific monster's immunities probably can't be broken, correct me if I'm wrong) for some time now.

Thanks in advance.

Since lightning is the skill with most damage, well, if anything can take ex-immunes out, it should be lightning.
Though, lightning/cl uses other breakpoints than the rest of the lightning skills.
Lightning/CL is at 78fcr/117fcr, while nova etc are at 65/105. Reaching the 117bp for lightning is somewhat tricky when using a polearm with no fcr itself. That is why people use eschutas instead.

However, it sure would work. Would look like one of those big cannons that do not spray bullets, but shoot to make instant kills.
~20k damage along with -55%res from infi, -20%res from griffons, conviction aura... Uhm, no maths required, its high damage.

Infinity may break the immunity, and it may not. It all depends on the kind of immunity the monster has. When breaking the immunity, conviction works at 1/5th of its normal value.

Now I'm not exactly sure how much -res an infinity conviction gives (too lazy to look it up at the moment), let's say it's -100%. When breaking an immunity, it therefore works at -20%.

The monsters base resistance may be 100%, which means after conviction, the monster has 80% resistance, after which the -lightning res from Griffons and Infinity apply.

On the other hand, the monsters base resistance may also be 150%, which means that after conviction, the monster has 130% left, which is still immune. -lightning res from Griffons and Infinity don't apply now.

Why not use Eschute/Spirit and switch to Infinity for Immunes. For high-immunes, use your merc.

You put infinity on your merc, not yourself. Then you load up on +skills. If you want to kill the broken immunity monsters efficiently you're gonna need some -resist yourself, the broken immunities will still have 80-99% resist usually and -resist will lower that to a more doable value. That merc will also kill any non-broken lightning immunes.

regarding resists, is there a way to attain 200 all resists w/o using hacked or duped items?

of course there is.
Wizspike 15'd - 90
Sanc shield // 4x Um monarch - 70 or 88
Coh - 65
Rare rings - up to 15 each, higher on single res'
Rare ammys - unsure on max, least 20, higher on single res'
rare belts, single resists in 30s, credendum has a lil, nightsmoke 10, lenymo 5

That's also not including resist all charms, torchs, or annis...

There was a thread on maximum stacked resists possible a while back - Iirc, its possible to hit way past 400, 500. With paladin salvation, fade etc.

Thanks guys! Looks like I have a lot of options. Building this character now, it should be fun :)
