View Full Version : shadow master question
hi, im a trap assassin, i just got shadow master. i was bored so i let my master do all the work ,and she started casting some sort of sentry. im not sure if it was death or light sentry, which one do they cast? and will it always be that one?
please, anybody help please.
They can cast any sentry, random witch ones they use, but they are liklier to use skills you have many points in.
so if i cast my traps first, will they override them with their casting? im hoping not because i want to be in control of my traps

You share with your Shadow a limit of 5 sentries that can be placed at once. So the sixth trap will always cancel the first, regardless of whether either was cast by the player or shadow.
It happens enough to be annoying, but isn't such a big deal in PvM. You could always go with a SW if you really want to be able to turn off the Shadow's trap-casting.

Is that so? I thought it was entirely random. Can you confirm that this is definitely true? If yes, I would have learnt something new.
Edit: My Phoenix Striker's SM does not appear to be using PS more than her other skills, but that could be me just not paying attention.
shadow warriors only use the sklils that you have on your right and left mouseclick. shadow masters use anything you have a skill point in. i just wish they werent so damn random. because shadow warrios are alot weaker, and no res

I can indead not confirm this with a legit test but you will surely have heard of maxing MB to make you shadow cast is *all the time* during teleport. Also in my opinion the master casts lightning and death sentry more often then the two fire sentries on my bowsin (bow+lightning traps).
Still I have not made any real tests on it ...

I think that's more due to the SM's AI. It casts traps and MB when there are enemies beyond her melee range, and as initial softening-up-trick.
So with tele she casts MB because of her AI IMHO.
Confirmed: Shadow Masters will cast skills more often depending on how high of a level they cast skills at.
There are other AI affects such as situation (proximity to enemies, number of enemies, possibly more), health of Shadow, and a number of odd possibilities like running away. Remember that these are all possibilities, which imlpies random. It is very possible to have an ill-behaved shadow, and I recast mine when she throws fits. :)

Thanks for clearing it up  *was sure, got unsure, now sure once more*
Boys the Shadow Master can use all assa skills, but the lvl of theese skills are: [the assa lvl skill/2 + 1]. So if your assa dont have activate one skill, the shadow can use it but only at lvl 1.
So if you are a trapper, the Shadow traps will be nice (nice lvl, so nice dmg); but if you are a mele assa, and dont have the traps activate, the shadow traps will be crap (only lvl 1).
The same with the other skills ;)

Brilliant! My thanks goes out to you once again, Master Yoda.
NP, guys, just doin' my job. Aside from the [yours/2] + [shadow/3], shadows also get random equipment bonuses, like from their elite claws. This can easily shift their behavior, which is why I recommend recasting if you get an annoying one. It doesn't always help, but sometimes it will.
Unfortunately, there is no legitimate way to check their equipment.

CuI'd suggest reading the Assassin FAQ which is linked in the FAQ update thread. It may clear up some of your confusions.
My eanglish isnt good sorry... but im not cofused on this... Shadow skill lvl = Assa skill lvl/2 +1.

Hmm so the ArreatSummit is wrong??
The skills a Shadow Master casts have the skill-level equal to half her skill-level +1.

....
The Arreat Summit is often wrong... sometimes moreso than others. Notice that the AS is correct for skills where you have 3 or less points in the skill (including all boosters).
