Hello everyone.. I've been playing D2 for a few years now, and I usually just play Single Player. Recently I've started a multiplayer game with a friend over LAN, and we play that a few times a week.
When I look at these forums, and see people posting builds for characters, that include items and gear, it makes me wonder: is it supposed to be easy to acquire these items? Or do you guys just use character editors? How can I make it easier to find good items when I play the game?
It really confuses me.. finding really good items is a VERY rare occurence for me. The community here just makes it sound a simple task. Is it just because you have put alot (ALOT) of hours into this game?
Hope to hear from you veterans.

In my case, it's the result of years of dedicated gameplay. I've only made two trades in my Diablo II career, but have found runes as high as Vex, and found very many highend uniques. It seems to be a little easier to acquire wealth if you trade, as many useful items can be had for a number of perfect gems. Are there any particular items you're looking for in Single Player?

A lot of it boils down to hours upon hours upon days spent playing the game. Also, if you have the right MF gear, and know what areas to look in, you're chances to find good itmes go up signifigantly. In conjunction with time spent playing, you're bound to find some godly gear eventually.
Try reading Hrus's mfinding guide, though in many cases the builds listed are designed by battle.net players who have a much wider tradepool to acquire semi-rare to rare items.
Learning to magic find, however, will be very useful and is pretty much essential to building any extremely strong character. A bnet player has the luxury of mfinding and knowing that if he finds a Death's Fathom instead of a Death's Web when he wants to build a necro, hec an probably make that swap.
A SP player goes 'well, I guess Im making a sorc instead' :)

What Junts said is right. You have more oppotunity to trade some of the stuff that you don't need for something that you do.
Still, it also depends on how well and what characters you play. When D2 first came out I cleaned up on Single player with a Trapper Assassin (Not as easy now with the synergies and patches.) She was unstopable! Killing most things off the screen!!
Things can also go a bit slow until a certian break point where you can do runs. Do enough D runs, Meph runs, or Baal runs and the stuff will come.
Tip: To help out Blizz made runes more upgradeable in SP. I can only upgrade runes to Thul (I think) in normal Bnet play but you can go all the way to Zod in SP. So upgrade a few runes and make a great item :starry:
