I'm just curious to know how many people these days actually do the act bosses by themselves without being 'rushed' by a friend or by people in a public game.

I started playing again this week for the first time in 8 months and started a fishymancer on USEast Hardcore Ladder and successfully got him to act 2 nightmare without any rushes.

I feel it's time to start a new character but I'm trying to decide if should even bother going solo or getting rushed.

As a new forum member I'm interested to see other peoples' opinions. Sorry if this thread has been done in the past :\

I never get rushed. I do all quests.

'Course, I play Single Player, but could still rush myself or get one through a TCP / IP game. Normal and Nightmare are often the most fun, since I'm not at a high enough level to wear all my twinked goods. Only area I skip are parts of Act V.

It depends on how I plan on building the character. If I want the luxery of saving all the points up till the high levels and applying them all at once certainly I'll trade a rush for my sorc rushing their character (I can't stand to give up forge loot). in all other cases (especially when the build is radically different from any character I've tried before) I'd rather level them up the no shortcuts way.

I used to play through the game, quest by quest. Now I just get rushed through.

I think everyone at one time did all the quests. Just because I don't think anyone ever downloaded Diablo for the first time and went straight to B.net.

The first time I played I jumped right into multiplayer and didn't bother with any single player or even passworded private games at all. This was a huge mistake because the pace of the multi party member games meant that I had no clue at any time as to what we were doing and I even had to skip the between act cinematics in order to not get automatically dumped out of game.

Strictly speaking I certainly wasn't being rushed, but the pace was definately fast enough to leave me looking exactly like the ebay hammerdin you just described. When I would stop for a second to ask questions like "hold on a sec just exactly why are all the townsfolk consoloing us for letting the bad guy get away if we just beat the act boss?" such amazingly stupid questions were answered only with (incredulous?) silence.

When I finally realized this just was not going to work, and started using password protected solo games to explore the quests with a new character the game became *a lot* more fun.

The moral of the story is don't rush or even party through the game with veteran players until you've had a chance to rubberneck through the quests in nice logical order like a tourist yokel from the sticks.
