i have never used shock wave b4 and i was wondering is it a viable attack for pvm,the damage on it seems very low for a lvl 24 skill, is there something im missing or is it just a black hole of skill points???

It stuns for like 13 seconds without any GCs, so max it if you want - but I'd pair it with Maul or Fireclaws, since the damage is so little.
Be aware that it spreads like Teeth and MS.

Shockwave is best paired with maul because in the case of a fireclaws bear...you have all those fire spells to max out as well...that is if your planning on maxxing shockwave out.
Though with either build...1 pt. is all that really needed for shockwave...and with +skills from your equipment/torch/anni you will get a decent amount of stun time from it to do damage with either maul or fireclaws. At level 11 it's something like a 7.6 second stun time.
Obviously...if you chose to max it out you will get far more damage and longer stun time from shockwave...but since with either maul or fireclaws your going to be killing fast enough as it is...I find maxxing shockwave not a option for my bear.

is shock bears still used in pvp?

Town summoners use it, I've heard, but I've never actually seen them do it.
Shock Wave is affected by IAS, not FCR - which is good; I guess you could use the Gris weapon with shaels/ias jewels in it...at least, that's what my swave bear did.

only town summoners i've ever seen in duels just stayed in town and kept casting their bear just out of town, they didn't actually bother to duel.

Sometimes when noone is guarding town they run out and shockwave helpless people who have died, so that they have no chance of escaping the bear.
I have made a mauler bear now and ive maxed all the main skills Lycantrophy, werebear, maul, HoW. So now im left with 20+ more skillpoints to distribute. So i was thinking about maybe spending those points into shockwave.
Is it a usable skill pvpwise, worth maxing out?

Zabo only put 1 pt. into it...and maxxed oak sage instead. He found that a 1pt. shockwave with the +skills from equipment to be more than enough. I pm'd him a while back asking the same question myself because I was use to maxxing it out like I did back in 1.08...and am in the middle of doing the same thing that he did with his bear.

so why has it changed since 1.08. why not max it out? i dont think i want oak sage anyway i think you need the ar from HoW.
another question. does concentration aura increase the damage of shockwave? if it does it would be cool
240* 4.5 =1080 magical dmg

No.
Neither does it work with the bone spells, or any magic damage besides Blessed Hammer

Hmm, is'nt shockwave physical damage anyways?
ok and it doesnt get effected by auras?
also have another question. why did bears use shockwave in 1.08. i mean maul has a stunning effect itself so why use shockwave? is there any mechanics of it that i dont know off?

The main thing with shockwave for pvm... is it's able to stun many monsters at once before you get to them...allowing yourself/your merc/and bear if you used one...time to kill them without putting them at risk of dying themselves. And since back then I had it maxxed...it also did alot more damage than it would be now because I only am using it with 1 pt. invested in it and only for the stun length.
Back then I didn't do any pvp so I couldn't tell you anything about it's use for it there.

They used shockwave because it worked.
15 seconds of nothing moving is crazy.
No, as before, it isn't affected by auras.

Sorry that's wrong, Shockwaves speed is based purely on FCR. Its physical damage as well, not magic as some ppl have posted.

zabo isnt the godliest bear out there as i go even with him ... or did a month ago .... easily.... and i ran test on shockwave .. i forgot thre results .... but iirc ... which i may not since i havent used my wb in awhile ... but the higher the lvl of shockwave the higher the inital stun .... meaning if you stun someone using shockwave .. maul them once .... the stun time between that one maul and the next attack is greater than .... if you have a lower shockwave lvl .... stun them w/ shockwaver and maul them once. Meaning that after you shockwave someone .. hit them once .... the swirl above their head last long if you have a higher shockwave lvl. However, .... after you hit them a second time the swirl, which puts them in fhr, is the same for every consecutive hit after the second maul is landed regardless of shockwave lvl. meaning that a higher shockwave lvl can have a strategic advantage in pvp melee vs. melee if you have a problem landing hits it will allow the swirl to stay aovie the oppenents head longer alloweing for potential better shift maul potential. I have not tested w/ fc as i only really deal w/ maul since my fc is retired.
Also .... when did zabo become a godly mauler?

I never said Zabo was godly...or anyone else for that matter...and I've just been in the process of making my first ever pvp bear after making pvm bears ever since xp came out...and chose to try doing pvp before I retire for good from this game.
I'm sorry that I don't know the ranking of people for the builds that they specialize in...and Zabo I only know from the posts here and the 2-3 times I've pm'd him with questions.
I never got involved in all the stats or testing that some of the older people here on this site have done...that part of the game never interested me much...and saved that for those who enjoy doing that sort of thing.

I have no F-ing clue what Valvaux was saying, but shockwave is affected by attack speed, not fast cast rate... I've tested with my 6shael Phase Blade compared to viper and magefists(which did 0). Go ahead and prove me wrong, I've TESTED it and heard directly it's ias!!! So unless you really know, hush. Shockwave is a great one-point wonder, especially for fireclaw builds... at 1 point it was at lvl 21 for me, but even at like lvl 8 its stun is pretty sweet.
You can, just to be different, make a pretty sweet Shockwave Bear if you have plenty GC's and goodies to work with, it can be built just like any fireclaw build too. Me and my friend, who used a 200FCR mb sin, would teamup and stun lock hammerdins with our char's, lol... we'd sadly like 200-300 damage them to death and they wouldn't even be able to tele or move. :P Here's pretty much what I used, u can check it out::wink3:
Helm: Jalal
Armor: Arcane's Valor
Ammy: +3shape/life
Weap: 6soc 'Shael-ed' PB/cta
Shield: 'Spirit'
Gloves/Belt: IK (mainly for all the strth, but great resists fhr too:thumbsup: )
Boots: Aldurs/marrowalks (if I need prison, for fun)
rings: resists, mana, w/e u lack really...maybe natur'es peace monsterheal/RIP
--7Shape(generic mainly, sry I'm not that rich); D-Torch 20/17
=lvl 42 shockwave: 253-263 damage +HOW%
Stat Placement (my build--u can change w/e fits u best):
20 Lycanth
20 Shockwave
20 HOW
20 Dire Wolf
15+rest Grizzly
...+1 on each prerequesite
MERC: you'll need a good Holy Freeze merc to help out this char build--I suggest Reaper's Toll for desc damage and Decrepify, which is perfect control for your dire wolves and shockwave...
this deck isn't insane damage, but it's all about control. WIth this combo you'll have stun, freeze, cold damage, and decrepify... your pets should almost never die if you build it right.

First off Jary, my name is Valvolux, not that difficult to read is it? Shockwave is NOT affected by IAS, it is based on faster cast rate, always has been and always will be, since expac. So either your 'tests' are extremely inaccurate or you're just dim witted.
I have several were bear builds based purely on shockwave, and have played d2 for over 5 years now, so unless you know what your talking about, do the druid forum a favour stop spreading misinformation and squelch yourself.
=lvl 42 shockwave: 253-263 damage +HOW%
HoW doesn't boost Shockwaves damage...guess just another thing you're wrong about jary.

ok thanks for clearing that up for me.
guess i wont max shockwave then since i dont have the fcr to make it effective and i dont think its worth sacrificing gear to get high fcr.

I'm with Valvolux on this one; Shockwave-speed is clearly affected by FCR, if it was affected by IAS you'd probably see a major difference with a FC-Bear since you're holding a 110% IAS PB, would you not? And, second; Shockwave does Physical damage, and the only way to increase it's damage is to get it to a higher SLVL.

Uh.
Shockwave.
Is IAS.
Infact, I'll go test it again on open right now incase somehow the fabric of time has shifted and when I tested it less than a year ago I was somehow thrown off course.
ok so 2 people says its effected by ias and 2 people says fcr.
i guess i just have to test it myself when i get home from University :prop:

*sigh* If you want to believe false information then fine. Though if you put on a 6 'shael' phase blade and compare that to a wizard spike, it becomes very clear that shockwave is based on FCR and NOT IAS.

I didn't take it that way Voice...so it's not a issue.
I've always perfered being a bear over a wolf myself because it's a rare sight to see a bear player...while seeing either wolf or wind druids in 8/10 games that I've joined on east ladder.
