Question concerning game play

This may be in the wrong forum, but I have not posted any where else besides the druid forum.

I was wondering if you level a really low level merc as opposed to buying one at lvl 85, will the merc you bought and raised early on have better stats?

I believe mercenaries hired in Earlier difficulties such as normal and nightmare have better stats, but levelling I am certain does not increase their stats. A lvl 1 leveled to 80 will be no better than if hired at 80.

There use to be a thread on this a while back and it has been said that a merc leveled patiently and loyaly by the person from a low level...that it does indeed have better stats than one that you buy at the same level as you.

For the old-timers that remember NecromancerLord...he always got a low level act2 defense merc as soon as he could with his bear characters and leveled him up along with him because he said that the merc will have better stats overall and he even did a study of it as well on the old forums...and posted his findings of it here on the druid forum at that time since it was based on his bear character and the merc.

A merc leveled from when you first get it has marginaly better hp. It's not that big a deal.
