Possible comeback

Hi, I haven't played D2 for many years, but now I really feel like buying it back. I am planning to play on Hardcore mode, because I don't really get the point of SC. Before doing so, there are some things I would like to know:

1) Are many people still playing the game ? I mean, are there like only 3-4 games up at any given time or are there hundred of em ?

2) Are hacks/duped very common ? When I left the game, there would be like 1000 SOJs on the ground in every game. It was getting very annoying.

3) Is everyone very rich ? I mean, will I actually have someone to play with if I start the game over ?

I've been playing after taking a couple years off. Some perspective:

You'll be dirt poor. About half the players will be uber-rich and/or tweaked, the other half is the "other half!"

MH is far less prevalent, but TPPK is not. Now, you need to watch out for druids, neccys, sorcs, and to a lesser extent zons. Doesn't take an extremely high level sorc to ice blast you into oblivion, so anything past norm baal runs is hard in pubby.

Hacks and dupes still occur. Sorry.

And there are about 10-15 norm games at any one time, and plenty of people from this board have been more than generous to me to get me going.

My best advice would be this:

1) Don't play past normal baals in public games due to the tppk threat.
2) Even in normal baals watch out for lvl 42+ wind druids and the like.
3) Be wary of enchanters with rogue mercs - and don't go outside town if the rogue merc is also outside town.
4) Be wary of people who offer "free rushes" as some of them will trap TP's for kicks, or TPPK you.
5) Collect EVERY gem you come across, and cube them up to perfect gems. Pgems can get you 75% of all items in the game. (Yes, I just made that statistic up!)
6) Hang around op xbananax where there's a greater chance of making friends and finding people willing to help you, and not wanting to kill you.

Hey thanks everyone for the fast answers. I have always picked up everything, I mean, even at lvl 80 I would still pick up a 12 gp pile :embarassed: .

Anyways, I wasn't planning to get rushed or anything, just wanna fight my way to Hell and start some MFing with Baal. I'll start a Fishymancer and see what happens.

By the way, is there any info about when the ladder is reseting ? Has it been done recently, is it done every year, I don't know ?

it reseted in the end of august, so it wont reset in 9 monthas or so. (about every 1.5 year) ;)
