If you put zero points into bone prison and maxed the other bone skills and used marrows, the 33 lvl bone prison worked as a synergy, resulting in 20 extra skill points (which caused masses of bm revive boners and boners with a very strong bone armor) and more dmg, due to a base lvl 33 bone prison. This was also the case with druids's Rabies and Carrion Wind. And Stone and fire skills of a druid.
But most of those builds are possible even nowadays, just has to make a sacrifice.
If you did not put any points into bone prison then wearing marrowalks gave you 33 free synergy points in bone prison which massively boosts your damage and gives you loads of free points to spend elsewhere.
So the synergy was 13 points stronger than normal AND freed up the other point that would have been spent.
Basically in effect a bone necro wearing this would have 143 skill points available to them (assuming they are happy putting 33 of them in a synergy of their main attack...), compared to 110 normally.
thanks guys, i got it now.
you said some of these builds are still possible though they require a sacrifice, so which builds where you talking about?
thanks again.

Well, mainly boners, if they want any summons they will need to sacrifice dmg or go high lvl. Also, Fury/Rabies druids can nomore have max Lycantrophy+Max Oak sage+Max Werewolf+Max Rabies+Max Fury, as they will want to max Poison Creeper. This will give you less life, but you can still reach pretty high lifes.

It screwed over a lot more chars than necs or druids.
Archmages, mageadins, mage barbs, brandzons.
Thanks for fixing something that was useful, and still neglecting to 'nerf' Blessed Hammer and Fist of the Heavens.

It's a shame that fixing the bug killed some interesting variants, but not that many people were using the bug to play Fireball Pallys...
And FOH needs to be nerfed? First time I've heard anybody say that.
